Whatever you do, do not volunteer to be the executor of his estate, if there is one. I made that mistake after my mother died August 2012 & I regret having done it to this day. Handling her affairs just drove home every single day that I would never see her again. I did it because no one else would but it was the saddest, most difficult thing that I've ever done.

Re: My father passed away this morning

My heart is breaking for you. I lost my dad twelve years ago. I grieved so long....forever, it seemed. I would be just fine (so I thought), then would wake up suddenly and go into the bathroom and just sob as quietly as I could. I thought I was losing my mind.

Then, one day, it hit me. I, a lifelong daddy's girl, had lost my daddy and it was okay to be sad. I was SUPPOSED to be sad. As soon as I gave myself permission to grieve, I felt a tremendous relief. And I began to get better.

I know it sounds like strange advice, Gidget, but give yourself permission to grieve. Just know that every feeling you have is validated and is important. And please try to take comfort in the knowledge that you were his champion and fought so hard for him.

May God bless and comfort you and your family.
