My freshman-year roommate left school after only a month; she missed her boyfriend back home. I was sorry to see her go; we got on so well together.
She left many of her belongings in the room, but since she had paid for the room for the entire first semester (non-refundable), she had the right to leave her things there, as far as I was concerned.
The following year, her sister enrolled in the same school, so I was able to keep in touch off and on. She (the roommate) had enrolled in a college in her hometown the following year, graduated after four years, and got married after graduation to someone other than the boyfriend she couldn't bear to live without at age 18.
