This morning, the major networks here in NY pre-empted their regular programming for Mayor Ed Koch's funeral.

It was a beautiful service. President Bill Clinton spoke, as did Ed Koch's nephews, and his great-niece and nephew. Mayor Bloomberg spoke, as did Ido Aharoni from Israel, the Rabbi from Temple Emanuel, and several other people who were very close to him. The service was dignified, tinged with humor, tears and laughter.

When the service was over, several New York Police Department members slowly carried his casket down the aisle to the tune of "New York, New York" played on the organ. It was really beautiful and touching and brought me to tears.

I was very glad when the funeral procession left, as there were just too many dignitaries there for my comfort. It didn't appear that the street was closed, as you could see the taxis and cars driving by. I really held my breath until they were all gone. The security must have been intense although I wasn't able to see it.

Rest in peace, Mayor Ed Koch. You did great!
