True patriots are not afraid to speak out against social injustices, no matter where the speaking out occurs.
If one truly loves their country, they are not afraid to speak out against tyranny.

An award show is about movies and entertainment.
That's my feeling...
The arts often are comments on social injustice and other matters of humanity.
Many of the films are social commentary.
I find it quite appropriate for them to speak to that on their awards shows.

Celebrities have just as much right as everybody else to have an opinion about what is going on in the world.
Just because they are famous, doesn't make their opinion any less important than anyone elses.
And if they see what they feel is an injustice happening, then they have the right to speak out about it, just like everyone else has the right to speak out when they see a social injustice.
@Plaid Pants2- but, their opinion is not more important either...they are entitled people, very rich and can not speak for the hard working people nor retirees getting a $5 C0LA. They are actors and thrive on attention and pretending to be someone else; that's what they do. Do you really think they care?
I have family who have worked in the entertainment industry (music, theatre) their entire lives. They made very little money. The idea that all of Hollywood is rolling in dough is incorrect.
Do you really think most actors were born with a silver spoon in ther mouths?

I actually watched a good deal of the show and I haven't watch much of it in years it was so dull. I liked Kimmel, he was really funny. The only part I found painful was the tour bus people coming through.
I doubt very much that if those speaking at the Oscars were saying things that the detractors agree with that they'd make such a stink about it.

I only watched part of it, and I thought he was fabulous!
I loved the opening and loved Justin Timberlake!

I think Justin Timberlake would be a fantastic host - he's an entertainer, IMO.

I hadn't thought about that but you're right, and good point @QueenDanceALot
They tell you that in art appreciation classes, too. The purpose of art is to make you think, sometimes to make you uncomfortable so you will think about the message, and that's certainly true for film.

I could have done without the bowel movement comment. That was pretty crass. Overall, I thought Kimmel did a fine job as host.

I like Jimmy Kimmel and thought he did a good job. My favorite host has to be Billy Crystal. I always loved the opening video he would do by inserting himself into the different movies for the year. He also would sing a song and do a monologue. I wish he would host again.
