How long do you keep your tax returns?

The old paper kind- pre electronic filing days. I pulled out 1991-2000 today to shred them and my doesn't like to get rid of anything husband was aghast. I looked at the IRS site and it said between 3-7 years. I put them on the kitchen table by the shredder and he said "well, it doesn't have to be done TODAY does it"? -LOL. I mean it's not like we've rushed into doing it or anything.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?
