Re: Have you ever won a contest?

[ Edited ]

Have never won anything real big, just a DVD player, $10/$20 occasionally in the lottery, $300 at a casino in Copenhagen.  I've received a couple of honors that didn't involve merchandise that I am grateful to have received - academic & personal.

Edited to add info. - These don't involve me, but I knew three people that won big.

People we square danced with won $6,000,000.  A receptionist at a place I worked won

$1,000,000 - both lottery.

A friend won a trip to Hawaii and was sitting by the pool talking with another woman.  The woman said she was going out on her son's boat the next day and invited my friend along.  The boat turned out to be much more than a 'boat'  and the son was Tom Selleck.  She said it was a wonderful day with very nice people.

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

Two years ago, I won a trip through HSN and Benefit cosmetics. It was for a three day trip to San Francisco, and would have included airfare if I had to fly there. We drove.

We had two nights in a Union Square hotel, meals, a tour, a show, and I got a makeover at Benefit, $200 of freebies, and an appointment at Dry Bar.  It was awesome...even had drivers meeting us and taking us from one place to another.

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

I won a case of regular cokes the week I started my "spring starve"!!!

"Spring Starve" is those five pounds you want to drop before spring/summer clothes.  Does anyone know what I mean?

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

At a large Christmas luncheon, I had a " feeling " I would win this huge basket filled with everything imaginable for baking  from bowls to cookbooks to utensils, etc.

Well, I got it and immediately gave it to the woman whose family was benefitting from the get together.  I was never so happy to not get something I did not need and give it to someone who did !

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

I!m pretty lucky..not only contests per se, but I have been on a couple game shows and won two cars, many years ago, and last year I won $20K on aKeno machine at the casino...

I don't know what it is, but when I enter drawings, I sort of "hear " them calling my name...and often it happens...

My name was drawn at a casino and I won a Chevy truck. Nothing since then.

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

It's been a while since I won anything but these are some things I have won:

-Cleveland Indians Baseball tickets

-$10.00 in the lottery

-Southwest Airlines tickets at one of my old jobs

Really enjoyed reading these.

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

Just remembered I did win someTHING other than races and other types of skill competitions. I always donate to State Cancer Association. One year the put tickets in their mailing envelope to me.

I sent my contribution back to them. Some time later, maybe months later, beats me. I get a phone call from them telling me I won $100 since I had the ticket number that was drawn?

I had to go to their office, where they have a branch in our city, to claim the check. They took my picture with a rep from the NCA handing me the check. After the picture taking, I gave the check back as a donation. Was an interesting event which I did not realize would be so big for  $100 winning ticket number that I didn't even buy.

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

[ Edited ]

Many years ago, my mom & I had been out & about shopping together, when we decided to each get a weekly lotto ticket.  She picked her numbers, I picked mine; none of us were looking at the other while we did it, but when we got our tickets, we glanced them over & were surprised that we each picked the exact same numbers!  My dad decoded why later; many of them were our birthday dates & how old we were at the time, but still it was all mixed up & we still got them exactly the same.

To this day, I cannot *not* play those numbers, since we both got them & it would feel wrong not to play them. I made the mistake of memorizing them, & I fear that one day I'll see the numbers having won, & be devastated, lol.

My dh had a bad habit of not getting the ticket often, then not letting me know about it until after I checked the numbers ("Good thing we didn't play it this week, then!") --so, one time I played a trick on him to show him what it would feel like, when I knew he hadn't got a ticket that week. We were reading the paper & I said for him to double-check against the (old) ticket he had in his wallet, pretending to read the winning numbers to him.  He got all excited, then ---wait for it--wait for it-- 'the look' came over his face when he remembered that he hadn't bought the ticket that week after all, and now he had to somehow tell me that we hadn't won millions of dollars!

I fessed up that it was a trick, then said, 'THAT is the feeling I don't want to have for real, one day!"

Kinda wish I had never memorized those numbers.  Unless we win one day!  Watch this space...lol.
