Re: Have you ever won a contest?

Many years ago, the company I worked for had a baked applie pie contest. I submitted my pie from my own recipe for an Apple-Pecan Pie with Lemon Custard. And won First Prize, a $75 gift certificate to a local mall.

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

I've won spelling bees and was runner up.  I"ve won multiple trips from my company in years' past, but I don't know if one would call that a "contest".   I guess it was as it was based on sales, but it wasn't based on chance.  So, I"m not sure if that's a contest, LOL.

Watching Kathie Lee and Hoda giveaway - have you ever won anything?

Yes, small items. Fun contests, when I think back about it.

I won an LP years ago for entering a radio contest.

I won a classical music CD for entering a national radio contest regarding local bloopers that you had to send in from a local community bulletin-type thing. I entered and mine got chosen and was read on the air.

I won a really beautiful door prize from a company Christmas dinner that my DH and I attended at a company that he used to work for, years ago. It was a set of two serving plates, for the holidays.

I won a gift certificate for a reading contest sponsored by our local library years ago. The certificate was good for an area teaching store, so I gave it to one of our neighbors who was a Reading Specialist, since I thought that she could make better use of it than I could. Smiley Happy

We've won small amounts from scratch-off lottery tickets, like $2 or $5.

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

I don't know if raffles (or casino winnings) are contests, but I've won at those.

The best I've done at a raffle was an antique Limoges lamp that was valued at over $7,000.  My pride and joy.

My biggest win in a casino was the progressive jackpot at a quarter poker machine (around $16,000).

My grandfather filled out raffle tix with all his grandchildren's name all the time.  I won a trip to St. Petersburg, FL.  My sister won a $5000 gift certificate to an upscale dept. store (Wanamaker's).  My mother won a diamond ring (valued at about $9K in the 1980's) and through Pop Pop, my brother won tickets and backstage passes to see Fleetwood Mac.  And a cousin won a basket of cheer--he was a minor, lol.

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

i felt like a pretty 'unlucky' kid in general. that changed one day.

the first time i won something is still with me 50 years later.

at a regional girl scout meeting, with about 70 names in the 'hat', my name was drawn to win a world globe.

i was fascinated by those world globes and wanted that soooo badly- and as she was about to pull out the paper, i absolutely knew it would be mine, i began walking up too soon to get it.

had never felt that way, it was so strong i still recall it.

maybe you have to be old enough to know what the globes were, with the blue oceans, and the bumpy mountains. i don't think they are popular now, but they still make them, and as soon as my wee grandsons are old enough, they will have their own.

i think it's the best way for a person to grasp the concept of how we are all on this one small world together, and there's really no way to get around it. Smiley Wink

Re: Have you ever won a contest?

@shosh, I'm late in reading your post, but wanted to tell you I really liked the way you told your story!  I have 'known' things too, before they happened, & know that feeling you are talking about.  There is nothing quite like it!  I have never been an overly 'sure' or confident person, so one time when I had this feeling, I was so certain what was going to happen that I would have bet a million dollars on the outcome.  I have never known a feeling of complete certainty like that before.  It's really something, isn't it?

As for globes, I remember loving those things as a kid, & then being -disappointed- (I'm not sure if that is the right word for it) - that countries change names, so the globes would always be changing from year to year.  I ended up never getting one for that reason, but now I would get one just for the 'look' of them.  I think they are beautiful, too.  I also love the photography taken of our planet, from space.  Absolutely breathtaking, and even more incredible when we realize that our current generations are the first ever human beings to see what our planet looks like from space!

@Serenity-Now

thank you for the lovely post -

yes, a globe won't be the most accurate, it's probably the best way to get the point across-

those photos are something, the kids today are used to seeing images like that, 50 years ago it seemed so incredible ! my son majored in physics and worked at an observatory, i was more interested in it i think, he was 'used' to it.Robot wink
