Kinda same topic, I guess. The Enola Gay was built at a suburb of our city. The B-29 was an integral part of ending the war in the Pacific. Operating out of of few airbases, one of which was Guam.
Escorted by the P-51 fighter plane these B-29 bombers were the end of Japan's attempt to rule the West. I remember well the parade in our city in recognition of this specific B-29. "End of an Era and of a War"!

John, you've really had some interesting experiences! And, you're a good writer! Have you ever thought of writing some of your memoirs for publication?

It's the last C-17; it's the last aircraft built in Long Beach; and it's the last aircraft built in the L.A. Basin of Southern California.
The once vibrant aviation industry in Southern California is now finished.
North American, gone.
Northrop, gone.
Rockwell, gone.
Lockheed, gone.
Hughes, gone.
Douglas, gone.
McDonnell Douglas, gone.
Boeing, gone.
The last lift off fight was powerful to watch as it flew toward the East, and out of sight.

That is a load of malarky. My husband is working for one of those companies you mentioned above, my cousin works at one and a friend at another...they are still there!
BTW Hughes, Rockwell and Lockheed have merged over the years. Hughes is gone because it is Lockheed/Martin now as is part of Rockwell.

Reread my first message .....this is Long Beach, CA. location.
Everyone is gone. End of an era of building planes at that location.

@esmeraldagooch wrote:What about companies who either opened more plants in the USA in tax friendly states or union/choice if union states?
...........................................................................
Most of the parts to build the planes are made over seas. They will ship the parts to a location in America and put them together.
I was a union leader for one of the airplane builders. And I would say not to join the union....that is another topic.... reason is I saw and I know what goes on behind the workers eyes and ears. Too much to go into this now. Life experiences teach us all kinds of things.

The End of an Era issues in a new. Sparrow, you of all posters. Don't you have a clue or hint as to what the new Yankee objects of flight are? You claim to have seen one in your childhood. Yes, we have them and use them. We are fortunate to be living to see the transition of one technology into another. I certainly bless and release with love all the past history that this nation has had - good and bad. We keep progessing and evolving. Well, some of us do anyway.

@Puzzle Piece, I would hope our future flights would be Time Travel without any kind of plane or flying object. I have my clue of how it woul be done but too many old tiime ideas or so called traditions hold back mankind.
I like to keep looking forward... leave the past in the past. Good for you to release the past history...only makes the heart, mind and soul bitter at times over things that did not go how they wanted it to go. Keep thinking positive thoughts about the future and live your thoughts of niceness.
We should look toward the future...new ideas, new ways of living, etc. People seem to keep looking backwards more then looking forward. We honor the dead, but what about honoring the living? I expect some to jump all over me for what I am saying...so what? (smile)
Mankind must keep evolving I agree.

Thank you. Just what I was going to post. This state doesn't want industry.

There was something on the news last week talking about how many have moved to CA and how many have left the state. Since more on assistance than are working this may be a indicator of how bad things really are.

That is why our taxes are sky high.
We have several good friends that are talking about moving out of State because of the heavy traffic daily....and high taxes.
