There was a story on the news this AM about a coyote who somehow drifted on an ice float in Lake Michigan about a mile from shore. He has been rescued - the Fire Department said they would rescue a tame animal (dog, cat) but not a wild animal. Luckily, Animal Control responded quickly and the coyote was jointly rescued by the Fire Dept. and Animal Control. Story is on ABC7Chicago.com. I think they have a video up now. Coyote ended up jumping in the 33 degree Lake Michigan but they were able to pull him out.
