Code Words to avoid Attempted Abductions

Did you see on the news

that a young girl in Fla was being followed in a car by a would-be abductor

and the man in the car told the girl that her mothersaid for him to pick her up?

the young girl asked the man for the “codeword

he drove off in a hurry

foiled attempt!

Re: Code Words to avoid Attempted Abductions

When my daughter was young we had a code word so that no one could just say they were there to pick her up from school, etc.

Unique code words?

Try "armed".

I can't imagine any mother sending a stranger to pick up her child.

Predators can be very convincing.

"your mom was in a car accident and wants me to pick you up for her"

All kinds of lame lines, anything that will work.

What?

I don't understand.

Are you saying children should be armed?

Or a code word should be "armed"?

yes.  my children are grown now, but they will each be able to tell you that old code word that we had so long ago.  actually, it was part of a sentence.  and btw:  one time i did have to send someone to pick them up in an emergency (it was a family friend) and sure enough (thank the lord) they asked her for the code word that i had given her!  YAY.

Our family also had a code word; a funny little word known only to the 4 of us.   I drilled that word in my daughters heads for so long, and every now and then I still ask them if they remember it.

We had a code word too.

No one knew it except my husband, myself and my mom. Not even my very best friend, who was on my emergency list for school had the word.

My kid is 22 but he still remembers the word.
