Hey Lucky,
Now that we'll be in NJ, can you name a few towns, down the shore, that would be nice places to visit for a weekend? Thanks!

I don't think it was always like that. Maybe our economy is looking up?

I've been noticing that some have sold for approx.100K over and beyond the asking price! Wow, that's a lot of over-bidding. They don't seem to stay on the market for long, either. Also, I've been hearing that houses in Chicago area suburbs which sold for approx. 299K in 2013 are now selling for approx. 499K+ now in 2016. Quite a change. And their new condos in the city are 'up there' in price, too. Lots of new condo/apt./office building projects. Well, I guess the economy and/or home sales aren't depressed in some areas.

yes..listed my property for the high 6's..and sold it for the low 7's. There aren't too many good properties for sale near the coast that are under a million, anymore.

Ruby, welcome to NJ! You must visit Cape May...it's a beautiful, quaint Victorian seaside town! I go there every year. Enjoy your new home for many years with good health and happiness!

Seller's.
The median home where I live is a million dollars.
Outrageous.

Cape May is everybodys favorite and I've never been unless I was too young to remember.
My grandparents lived in OC my entire life and that's the only one I was familiar with. Very family oriented, nice boardwalk and beach. I never knew there was an actual 'town' until we got here last summer.
We used to go to Wildwood in our late teens early 20's (oh those Wildwood days.....) and I remember Atlantic City way before the casinos. It was great in it's heyday.
We're doing a total renovation here and we're over 550 miles from home. Season was winding down when we first got here and it's starting to pick up again with the warmer weather, much more people.

That's about what it is where we live, but Zillow is saying much less ($847K).
The market always picks up this time of year and maybe the median price does, too?

A few months ago...I looked at Zillow...to see what our Bay Area home sold for, after it changed hands once again. 2.1 million. No...not going to say what we sold it for about 15 years ago...makes me want to cry!

It is a sellers market. Our county is so varried. We are on the lower end (price ways) in the county. That is because we are further away from the silicon valley epicenter. My husband and children have to travel 1.5 to 2 hours to work. It is a 45 minute ride in no traffic, and only 40 miles. The average home here in my town is about 800.00. But the newer homes are million and up.
Now if you go North of us about 50 miles you can pick up a 2 bedroom one bath for 1 or 2 million. My friend wanted to rent, they sold their home here and wanted to move around Palo Alto. Average rent was 4,000. for a 2 bedroom home...no kidding.
I would hate to be young, starting out looking for my first home. It has to be hard!! The rents are high here, but have come down a couple hundred from what they were in 2010
