I'm so surprised some don't just leave a little post it note or an email to the IRS and tell them to ""keep the change"" and just give it to somebody that needs it more than I do.

bwahahahahaha yea when it freezes over . . . literally

don't quite walk the walk just all talk. Smiley Wink

Maybe if I could direct where I wanted the extra money to go....bwahahahahaha.

mail it to them directly. Smiley Happy

I wondered how long it would take before the "free loan to the government" comments were made. You can always count on them!

{#emotions_dlg.lol} every.single.time - they just can't resist letting these people in on the matter.

But, but, but it's the truth. Why let the government have your money all year interest free.

Yeah, I'd sure miss that 1% interest :-)

And then there's, "what's a refund?"Wink

i don't understand why that would be offensive.

It isn't.

Some people are just anxious to be offended so they can argue and be the center of attention. It's close be being troll behavior.

Mostly because I'm not going to earn any interest on it anyway! And it is a "forced" savings plan that allows us to gather enough money to do something really meaningful with. In the past we have used to to pay the tuition for private school. Once those days were over, it has been used to make improvements on the house like roof, windows, etc. It is a way for us to pay for big items, without financing them and spending more money on interest for payments on those things.

Re: Anyone else get their tax refund yet?

My taxes are complicated and I use an accountant. Haven't made the appt yet. I will probably owe a little money this year, but I've been pleasantly surprised in the past.

Last year I made a mistake and owed a lot of money, ouch. When income flows in from a few places, it's hard to tell ahead of time. Anyhow, I don't do my own taxes yet. I will when I can file a short form.

They are required by law to be out postmarked 1/31, you can report to the IRS!

The law was changed in 2008. The deadline is now February 15th, but since it falls on a Saturday this year, the deadline is now Tuesday, February 18th because Monday the 17th is a federal holiday.

Apparently that doesn't apply to brokerage houses. I just got my 1099's in my e-mail yesterday.
