I guess I thought of elderly as about 75.  A newscaster was on TV and said that 65 was elderly.  Today I just do not think of the  age decade of 60 as eldery. Maybe years ago when people were considered old at 50.

Re: Age 65 is called Elderly?

I sure don't think of 65 as elderly either!  I think that many people at that age and older are still healthy, active, and still in the workforce.  I might be a bit prejudiced since I am over  65, and do not feel OLD at all.

Re: Age 65 is called Elderly?

I once contacted a reporter and suggested she knock off referring to anybody as "elderly".   It's a ridiculous manner of describing a senior citizen,  very insulting and not,  IMO,  at all PC.   I didn't see her do it again.   Protest!

Well, I would prefer to call it "seasoned" as opposed to elderly.

This is one of the best reasons ever to "Change the Channel".

My dad is 65 - I don't think of him as elderly.  That word, to me, means someone very old and frail.

That's what wikipedia says, too, but I don't agree. I think it should be closer to 75, imo.

Re: Age 65 is called Elderly?

I'm 66 and was taken back when a young man referred to me and my friend as elderly ladies. Now my friend does look older, but I think I look more 56 than 66, even my doctor thinks I look 10 years younger. I just think young people think if you are not young like them you are elderly. My husband says everyone over 65 thinks they look younger than they are.LOL
