A survey of historians ranks the nation's first ladies

according to accomplishments, background, being her own woman, courage, leadership and value to our country. Can you guess who they ranked in the top 5?

Eleanor Roosevelt. I've not read enough about her, but I will now.

Ever watch that C-SPAN series called: First Ladies: Influence and Image? Really good. Especially interesting to learn about the earlier and less famous First Ladies. Amazed how well the gowns were preserved after so many years, and fun to see them.

Not surprised at the No. 1 ranking at all.

Hi Lynda- C-Span is actually going to feature this Siena College research poll about first ladies. I would LOVE to see the program you're talking about. I'll have to look for it!

My mother and her friends adored Eleanor and used to tell me stories about her. Many people don't know that Eleanor was friends with Amelia Earhart and that one night at a Washington DC dinner, they got bored and left to go on an adventurous ride together on Earhart's plane.

Great women, both of them Smile

bathina, I promise you won't be disappointed. She was a great lady! Just a little tid bit, she and her husband were 5th cousins once removed. Interesting isn't it?

Hi Noel and rondell- I had no idea. Great bits of trivia. Now I'm really interested to know more about her life. Has anyone seen the movie Hyde Park on Hudson? I'm pretty sure it's about the Roosevelts.
