@MelaniaThe women who have passed from cancer  an or suffered great illness would beg to differ.  A friend of mine was one of the victims and suffered for years.

@SeaMaiden@; @Melania - my friend got lupus when her implant broke when she fell.  These things are foreign to our bodies and should not be inside our bodies - never, ever would I ever consider it, even after reconstructive surgery.  But that's just my thoughts on the subject.

@Lipstickdiva  I have to agree about things like botox that are , in fact, injected into your body. However, breast implants are not. The material they contain is generally just saline and the material of the outside is not toxic. Part of the reason that numbers can be high for cancers from breast implants is because many of the implants out there go into women who have a mastectomy or partial mastectomy due to cancer. I had a lumpectomy that took over 25% of my  breast and the doctor immediately offered me the option of an implant. I turned it down & have learned to live with them as they are.

This link has nothing to do with breast cancer from the implants.  It's a rare form of lymphoma.

Implants can also leak, which causes a host of other problems.

I just wouldn't want them but as I said, everyone has to do what they are comfortable with.

I know all about this as I have had first hand experience with cancer. So don't tell me that I don't know. You really are shameful. I also know what many different oncologists and specialists have told me about the past implants. THAT WAS WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. You can beg to differ all you want but you are making a generalization and have changed your story.

Your thread talked about a certain type of implant. Did it not? That was what I was referring to. Now you have made it about original ones. Big difference.

You make it sound like those who get implants for friviolous reasons (your snotty opinion) are the ones who should be ashamed.

Also hoosier...any foreign object can cause immune problems...hip and knee replacements and so on. Certain peoples bodies reject or attack it but not all.

I'm not sure why you quoted me as I posted that the link between the implants and the lymphoma is very, very small.

However, I already have a higher breast cancer risk due to family history and our family in general has a very high cancer rate so I personally wouldn't choose to do something like this that would cause my chance to increase at all.

Again, I know there are probably over a million breast implant procedures done a year and I would have no idea how many have been done to date.  And I know only "9" people have died from this rare lymphoma but I'm sure the fact that it's rare that it would happen and a rare type of cancer is no consolation to the family and friends of the 9 people who died.

@Lipstickdiva

I was agreeing that there is a very, very small risk of developing a very rare form of lymphoma.

I took it to mean she was agreeing with you.

As an aside....With anything there is risk and there is no guarantee about any options one chooses and I mean treatment wise too.

But we do it to try and save our lives.

As far as implants go after cancer treatment, many women do it to try to get some type of normalcy in their lives. To NOT have a constant reminder of what is no longer there but big gaping scars.

I know a young woman who is 28 and had to have a double mastectomy...should she not try to be her new normal again?

With everything there is risk...but to dismiss ( people in general) certain things because it's frivolous or shallow is beyond ...............

Re: 9 deaths and rare cancer linked to textured breast implants, FDA says

Life doesn't come with any guarantees. People are entitled to pursue what they feel is going to make them happy.

People die everyday in car crashes. Does this mean no one should drive?  They get diseases , have bad things happen to them

The best answer to all of this is, to live your life to the fullest that you can. Enjoy every moment, and it's no ones call but your own how that should be

I really don't think it's useful to lecture other people about the choices they make, and it certainly isn't very kind. Make rules for no one but yourself

[ Edited ]

my very dear friend neighbor across street from me just had all this stuff done about 2 yrs ago. she had a gastric by pass and implants and tummy tuck done all at once.  She went from a size 18 to a size 6. She really looks wonderful now.

I hope there won't be problems with all that she had done.

I have heard/read about implants and cancer.
