TCM Tributes To JFK: Documentaries; PT 109 - Nov. 21st - 22nd

In observance of the 50th anniversary of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy's assassination, TCM is devoting the entire evening tonight, Thursday, November 21st starting at 8 PM ET and continuing through 4:45 AM ET on Friday, November 22nd, with a series of rarely seen documentaries and the film, PT 109, detailing JFK's WW II Naval service.

Thursday, November 21st

8 - 9:15 PM Primary (1960)
This landmark cinema verite documentary by Robert Drew follows JFK for nearly a week in April 1960 as he campaigns across Wisconsin to take on Hubert Humphrey during the presidential primary race.

9:15 - 10:30 PM Adventures on the New Frontier (1961) - 52 mins.
A portrait of JFK's early days in the White House.

10:30 - 11:45 PM Crisis: Presidential Commitment (1963) - 58 mins.
Documentarian Robert Drew goes behind the scenes of the Kennedy White House to film the meeting between JFK and Alabama Governor George Wallace as they haggle over the integration of the University of Alabama.

11:45 - midnight Faces of November (1963)
This short film studies the faces of the on-lookers and participants in the 1963 funeral of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

Friday, November 22nd

The period surrounding President Kennedy's assassination is recounted in depth, in newsreels, amateur films and re-created sequences.

2:15 - 4:45 AM PT 109 (1963) - 140 mins.
Starring Cliff Robertson, Ty Hardin
Chronicling the real-life courage of John F. Kennedy when he was a Navy lieutenant in charge of the PT 109 during WW II. Among the adventures they had was the courageous rescue of Marines stranded on the island of Choiseul.
