I am so excited about the QVC St Patrick's Day celebration Today's Special Value: The Connemara marble and Waterford Hurricane lamp is really awesome. I want to share some photos and words from the team who will bring this to you on March 17th.

To lift Connemara marble from our own quarry, and watch it pass through eight pairs of hands and to 'marry it ' to Waterford Crystal has been a real adventure. The patters in the marble reflect the forty shades of green, and each will be as individual as a fingerprint.

Philip O’Keeffe tells me that he so proud to be part of the Waterford /QVC partnership over the last number of years. He tells how it is a pleasure to be able to step away from the Cutting wheel for a few day’s to share with the many millions of viewers, the pride and love of the work he does in creating the beautiful pieces for the QVC consumer. Each piece that he creates tells a wonderful story. And as you know, the factory have been hand crafting Crystal in Waterford  for over 200 years.

When Waterford's highly acclaimed Chief designer John Connolly was prompted to create a special piece bringing together two legendary Irish Brands Waterford and Connemara Marble one material with its clarity and light refraction the other with its forty shades of green, "a chara" was born to celebrate a great friendship between  Philip O'Keeffe Waterford and Stephen Walsh  Connemara Marble.

"Light in the window" instantly came to mind where one could design a beautiful Waterford Crystal hurricane shade that would sit on a solid foundation of Connemara Marble shaped and polished to expose its beautiful green tones. The linear hurricane shade has elegant curved windows with rosette cuts at either end and a candle beautifully cut in the centre of each.

Philip and his fellow masters at House of Waterford both blowers and cutters have really enjoyed and embraced working on this project.

Light in the window has a historical origin all around the coast of Ireland where Mothers would leave a light in the window at night to guide their loved ones back to safely to shore from their fishing trips.

Today a permanent light shines in an upstairs window in Aras an Uachtarán the home of the Irish President in Dublin Phoenix Park.

The light introduced by President Mary Robinson is a symbolic beacon reaching out to guide our immigrants family's and their descendants back to visit their ancestral homeland.
