It has been a long time coming but as they say, anything worth having is worth waiting for…

The style our kitchen remodel is traditional, transitional, contemporary, farmhouse(I just made that up).  We used a combination of off white and dark espresso cabinets with nickel hardware to tie into the stainless steel appliances.

The off white cabinets are traditional, the dark cabinets are contemporary flat panel. The counter tops are quartz and the island and bar are granite.

We chose a large stainless steel farmhouse sink.

And rippled glass tile for the backsplash and laid it in a traditional subway tile pattern.

We removed the original bar wall to open up the space and moved our dinette set out of the kitchen so that we could extend the length of the island.  Now we sit together around the island for casual meals and for larger gatherings we will actually use the dining room.

The actual size of the kitchen did not change but it feels so much larger in this new layout.  We opted for a large column refrigerator and separate drawer freezers.

And we now have a wall oven/microwave.  It is going to be so nice for the holiday’s to have that extra oven.

We added more recessed lights and chose beautiful art glass pendant lights to add some color in the space.

I stole Chef Meredith’s idea for organizing my spices.  I found these little canisters at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Every time we host a party or entertain our family and friends, we all end up in the kitchen, the heart of the home.  So now it is a space that is warm and inviting with room and the function to accommodate everyone.

Of course now that the kitchen is all shiny and new the rest of the house needs a refresh.  We are going to get a professional painter to paint the 2 story areas of the house.  James and I painted the dining room last week.  It was a deep burgundy color so it took sanding, primer and 2 coats of paint to cover it. (my neck and shoulders are still sore)  Our next project is the laundry room.  It is not as glamorous  but I am excited to finally get it functioning better.  Stay tuned.
