Let me break it down into the "1-2-3's" of it all:

  1. Create a guest list. This will help determine if it should be a sit down, family style, buffet, or apps and cocktails.

  1. Come up with a theme. Now we don't want to turn this into a kids party, so keep the theme loose and adaptable. The reason this is helpful is because it will help tremendously when creating the menu, the music, the signature cocktails, and the decor. For example, I recently went on a trip to Turkey and was inspired by the culture, the people, and the food, so I decided to create a Mediterranean style get together.

Food: Mixed meze plates. Basically I did a number of small plates inc hummus, olives, meats and cheeses for starters. My main course consisted of a mediterranean style fish using fennel, blood oranges, dill, and fresh chilis for a little heat! Yumm!!

Drinks: I served up wines from that region and followed up the dinner with some Turkish tea and pastries.

Decor: I enhanced my space using a few kilm rugs that I picked up along the way in my travels but if you don't have those, ED on Air has some awesome indoor/outdoor woven medallion rugs that are PERFECT! And I know that her rugs were inspired by her travels as well!

I also incorporated things from around my house that had a mediterranean flair like this metal pouf that I found at a vintage fair a few years ago.

3.  Last final detail...the music! I know Ellen loves to have music playing whenever possible. It adds so much to the ambience. Find a station online that ties in the mood and theme of your big soiree!

Whoops! I guess I forgot one last LAST detail.....ENJOY

Kick back with your friends and family and enjoy the party!
