Our Impromptu Mother / Daughter Trip to Grand Bahama

by on ‎09-23-2016 06:20 PM

I’ve done quite a bit of traveling in my day, but not too many trips with just my Mom.  When I was working on the cruise ship, my mom joined me for a 2-week Alaskan cruise and that was back in 2011.  Needless to say, I figured it was time for another Mother/Daughter trip!  This time, however we went tropical!!

We flew from Philadelphia straight to Grand Bahama where we spent 4 nights and 5 days.

The water was gorgeous…just how you would imagine, all different shades of blue and turquoise. We did a lot of sunbathing (in the shade), wading in the ocean and walks on the beach.

We stayed at an all-inclusive resort where I was able to participate in daily yoga classes as well as some water sports.  Something I’ve always wanted to try is Stand Up Paddleboarding and on this trip, I had my chance!

One of the days, we decided to do an island tour and get a feel for the island outside of our hotel. The locals were lovely and friendly as could be.

We stopped at a market where I picked up a coconut, an avocado and a mango and Mom got a dress! She also did a little looking around for something cute for her two granddaughters (my nieces).

In the evenings we enjoyed nice dinners and of course a lot of laughs.  We even spent a few minutes in the casino playing the penny slots – we didn’t win.

All in all it was a great trip and nice to see the Bahamas, but the real reason for the trip was to spend quality time together.  I hope we can make this happen again before another 5 years slips away.
