My Conversation with Frankie Avalon

Meeting Frankie Avalon was inspiring. OF COURSE, he is a music legend, crazy-successful actor, playwright, and entrepreneur, but that wasn’t what inspired me when meeting him last week. He’s grounded in his family and loves to cook!

I grew up with good music and Frankie was definitely a part of that rotation. My Dad can still hit all the notes to “Venus”! I had the opportunity to sit with Frankie last week and I was excited. I know his music, I know his movies, I know him from TV. I knew he had his first gig when he was 11 because he is a wiz on the trumpet. I know his voice is VELVET and I was going to get to talk to him myself! I started off talking to him about music a little bit and asked him who he likes that’s on the radio now. He mentioned Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and said “Justin Timberlake is just the whole package”.

Then, he started to talk to me about his family whom he loves dearly. Here’s what I learned last week that I didn’t know at the time that I now LOVE: Frankie Avalon has been married more than 50 years, has 8 kids, 10 grandkids. When he’s not working on movies, TV, and music, he’s cooking for his family.

I LOVE THAT!

His Dad was a butcher and the best in town (MY interjection, by the way, Frankie Avalon is way too humble to say it). His father is the inspiration for his Choice of Sausages at QVC: he uses his family recipe! He shared with me, “if you don’t use fresh ingredients, it will never be right”. Couldn’t agree more and you can sure tell he feels that way: they are DELICIOUS. So fresh and just so, so good.

And sorry to go down a side road, but have you tried his Tiramisu and/or Limoncello Mascarpone Dessert?! When the crew lines up a dozen-deep after the presentation is over, that’s your sign: it’s amazing!

My point is: it was an honor to meet such a talent and such a nice man. He’s a music legend, movie icon, and inspiring entrepreneur. All things to aspire to be and all things to look up to. I’m moved by his love of family and his passion for good food. If you get the chance, please try his selection from here at QVC. Be on the look-out for him on-air and try not to get all goofy like I did when you see him. I bet you can’t. Smiley Happy ~ Mary DeAngelis
