Milestones and Family Meals

We celebrated a milestone in our family recently – my wife Tonya’s 50th birthday.  We hosted a party at home with family and friends – exactly what she wanted.  She’s such an amazing wife and mother and she deserved an evening filled with love, laughter, and surprises.  In our family, we’re used to cooking big meals, but this one needed to be extra special.  Instead of our normal BBQ selection, I smoked Filet Mignon.  As much as we love grilled steaks, this wasn’t an evening that I would be able to stand over a grill and babysit the food.  I wanted to enjoy time with our guests, so I knew smoking the steaks was the way to go.

Since we had a crowd to feed, I opted for purchasing whole beef tenderloins and slicing the steaks at home.  If you’re feeding a few people, you can purchase pre-sliced filets.  We went with 1 1/4” and 1 1/2” filets and sprinkled them with Kosher salt, black pepper and garlic powder.  We smoked them for one hour at 275 degrees – they were perfect medium filets!  If you want even more flavor, sprinkle them with some Montreal steak seasoning.

One of the things I love about our company, Masterbuilt, is that we design products that my family loves and uses.  Cooking and spending time together around the dinner table are essential parts of our life.  Whether it’s a random Tuesday dinner or a night to celebrate my awesome wife, we love making meals and memories together.
