Meet Lead Ojon Stylist Gwynne Mims’ Style Icon, Grandmother & December QVC Model!

by on ‎12-12-2012 04:48 PM

We all have different people in our lives who help guide and mold us into the person we ultimately become. One of the most inspiring women I know is my grandmother, Betsye “Bycee” Clark. An always witty, ever-charming, and unabashedly glamorous woman, she instilled in me the joy and importance of taking care of myself and embracing beauty in all things. From the way she decorates her home to the way she prepares a meal to the way she communicates, and of course to the way she dresses and styles herself so impeccably, Bycee is one of those women who just “gets it.”

I’ve stayed with my grandparents countless times and the morning routine is always the same. A sleepy me walks into the kitchen to see my adoring and kind grandfather, Eebie, getting me coffee and juice. Bycee is cooking a beautiful breakfast, then she’s off to her vanity to set her beautiful silver locks and apply a perfect face of makeup. She's always active, always busy, and always primped. It’s a refreshing thing to see, especially these days when pajamas and flip-flops are an accepted norm. A mother, grandmother, and wife, she's the matriarch of an entire family. It’s not that she doesn’t have anything else to do, it’s that being pulled together makes her day better.

I always joke around with my family that my most exacting (and intimidating!) client is Bycee. I’ve never worked with an A-lister that made me more nervous. My hands literally shook the first time she let me cut her hair, and I’ve never been as honored as when she continually spoke of how great it was. When we were going over our upcoming show and chatting about which models we should use for each collection, the conversation quickly went to Bycee. She loves Ati Rejuvenating Shampoo & Conditioner, which she believes keeps her grey shiny as opposed to the yellow tint or dullness that normally plagues silver foxes. I thought she'd be a perfect addition as a model because her hair is more brittle than it once was, but she’s still doing the same amount of styling. She needs to be careful about the products she uses to protect the health and luster of her hair. So, on December 20, just a couple of days before her birthday, Bycee is coming up to QVC to be one of our models. I can’t wait to style her hair backstage, have her on set, show her what my job is like in person, and introduce her to all of you!

Happy holidays, everyone. This is the time of year to take inventory and say “thanks” for all we have. I'm feeling truly blessed to not only have a beautiful family, but also a fulfilling career. Having them intersect this month is just too good to be true.

Happy Holidays!
