Local Inspiration

by on ‎09-06-2012 03:02 PM

As a designer, I’m continually surprised by where inspiration comes from. Designers are always in search of something new to evolve their craft. We travel the world in search of “NEW” (trends, directions, color, etc.), and research magazines and books for something that triggers the imagination. And, sometimes, we find something great close to home.

With all the traveling we do, this summer my husband and I spent more time than usual at our home. While these were technically working vacations, I had a deadline for my Layers By Lizden Fall 2013 collection, we still stole some time to continue exploring our area. As a long time supporter of our local museum I noticed in their newsletter that they were having an exhibit of quilts. Since it was raining, it was the perfect rainy day outing.

I've always been fascinated with quilting; it’s such a true American craft! WOW, was I inspired! Amazing textures, complex mixes of colors, patterns & shapes. And all 15 minutes from my home. I couldn't stop sketching. Think that by the time they are translated into next year’s products you’ll love the influence too!

With the summer officially over, my husband, who’s always a great inspiration to me, took a final walk on the beach. Love the picture and wanted to share with you.

And, with the summer officially over it’s time for Fall Fashions on QVC. This Saturday I’m thrilled to be joining Leah on AM Style with my Marvelush Cable Scarf. A216860 is customer top rated and comes in 7 luscious colors including a beautiful new periwinkle.

Would love to know what influences you and how you interpret it? We’ll be on Pinterest in the next few weeks so look for us there too, and in the meantime, please follow me on FACEBOOK. See you Saturday!
