We’ve been going to my college roomates summer home in Cape Cod for more than ten years.
{This is Caroline }
It’s always the highlight of the summer. We used to go as a two childless couples and then one by one our kids starting coming. Now we are four adults and five kids…somehow we got outnumbered. And the kicker is, it's five girls! Trouble!
Since the girls have been going to Chatham since they were babies, the quintessential Cape Cod activities like clamming, boating, ponds, and looking for sharks (yea they are there every year) are just normal to them.
We hop on our friends boat down at the pond each morning and trek out to another secluded island beach.
We clam, swim, explore, and fish.
We head back each evening sunkissed and windblown and enjoy raw clams or steamers. Or, our Italian host makes homemade pizza in the pizza oven or delicious pasta.
My friend Caroline married an Italian and they live in Naples all year. But they get to spend the summers in Cape Cod. We only see them once a year and it is such a cherished time.
This year we took the trek to Nantucket.
It takes about two hours on a small boat but it was so worth it.
Geogria always falls asleep and Grace is the one always on the lookout for the “barco” she wants. That girl has my taste! Never seen a sailboat she doesn’t love.
We walked around and visted all the places I have read about. I daydreamed about having a cottage on the water or a boat of my own one day. But someone got a little cranky toward the end of the day…
Luckily the other Cape Cod staple, ice cream, solved her problem.
One of our favorite parts of our yearly trip is spending one evening at a local clam bake. It’s become a tradition within our yearly tradition.
We eat too much and let the girls have ice cream AND s’mores and I take pictures of the gorgeous bay and boats that I blow up and put all over my walls at home.
In fact, I’ll share some of those with you in closing. My favorite water views of my beloved adopted summer community.
I hope your summers last blast is as memorable as mine.
Happy back to school!
