The buds on our magnolia tree have flowered, the sun is shining, and you can smell the grass of the freshly mowed lawn. Gotta love Springtime! And if it’s time for Spring, then it must be time for… Baseball. Now I know that with our fast paced world of changing channels, Apps, and shortening attention spans, some may view the game of baseball as, well, slow and boring.
Who wants to sit around and watch this slow game? But believe me, all of that changes when one of your own kids is in the game. It suddenly becomes very exciting!! Especially when he’s on the mound, pitching! Suddenly every pitch matters! Every ball, every strike, every call by the Umpire becomes a major moment in the game.
From the days of watching our kids play T-Ball, we’ve loved every minute of it.
Over the years, my wife Amy and I have been to countless baseball games involving our two boys, Nick and Josh. With Nick moving on to Basketball only, High School Freshman Josh is now the lone Baseball Player. Through the years, it’s been such a joy to see them Play. They’ve experienced the joys of having had big hits, great catches, and great slides into Home Plate. And yep, they had their fair share of strikeouts and errors as well! And mom and Dad have been there to share in both their Thrill of Victory, and their agony of defeat.
We know T-ball is in the distant past, and we’re not going to have many seasons left. But we feel good knowing the kids have learned to work as a Team, made lifelong friends, and most importantly, had a blast.
I’d call that a Grand Slam Home Run.
In case I’ve inspired you to have a Hot Dog and sing “take me out to the Ball Game’, here are a few items from the Q that might make the game more enjoyable, win or lose… rain or shine.
My Game Picks:
Play Ball!
