Halloween at the Great Wolf Lodge

This year for Halloween I took the kids and my parents to Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos.  Great Wolf Lodge is a family friendly resort that features a large indoor water park with water slides, a wave pool and a lazy river.  All of us love the water, so we packed up the van and took a road trip up to the mountains.

I told the kids we were taking a trip but I didn’t tell them where.  They were so excited and that’s what I love about this age, they are so excited by the idea of taking a trip it doesn’t even matter where!!  As we entered the resort the lobby was decked out in Halloween decorations.  Lots of pumpkins and tombstones and even a big witch was hanging out over the grand fireplace.  The kids just took it all in as I checked in.  The staff is so friendly at Great Wolf and when you arrive the kids receive a pair of wolf ears to wear.

The wolf pack theme continues in your hotel room as well.  The room was a neat set up with a pair of bunk beds in the ‘wolf den’ which was separate from the main room.  Can you believe at 42 years old this was the first time I ever slept in a bunk bed?!?!

We got straight to business and put on our bathing suits for the waterpark.  The kids loved riding the kiddie water slides and bobbing around in the wave pool.  I was pleasantly surprised by how much there was for little ones to do.  Jericho though is my adventurous one and she was game to ride some of the bigger water slides with me and her pop-pop.

It didn’t take long before we were all worn out so we headed back to the room and cleaned up for dinner. After dinner the kids watched an entertaining show featuring all the forest friends telling a story about how the four seasons came to be.   The resort had even more activities that evening including a monster mash dance party but I felt like it was time to call it a night.  Well Jace had other plans!

Once we made it back to our room it was time for bed, or so I thought but Jace would not go to sleep.  He kept climbing out of his bed and running around laughing and giggling.  He kept this up for almost 2 HOURS!  His sister on the other hand had no problem falling asleep and even managed to sleep through all the noise her brother was making.  Needless to say it was a little bit of a rough night but the next day was Halloween and we were ready for all the festivities!

The game plan for day two was waterpark, trick or treating, dinner and dance party.  Jericho discovered the ‘hot springs’ tub at the water park and spent a good amount of timing floating around in it.  I actually had a chance to ride a few slides by myself and even get drenched by the big splash bucket.

Later that day it was time for the kids to put on their costumes for Halloween.  Jericho dressed as a princess and Jace dressed up like a character from his favorite show Paw Patrol.  The resort set up a trick or treat route spread out through the hotel.  Of course the kids were happy to receive candy, I was happy we didn’t have to go outside and walk door to door!  After dinner I thought the kids may want to join the Halloween dance party but this time both kids were ready for bed.  We all slept well this night!

The next day was our last and I couldn’t believe the kids wanted to head to the water park again!  So we splashed and slid one last time before hitting the road to head back home to daddy (he had to work).  I can’t wait to go back with Judson and the kids and I hear the resort transforms into a Winter Wonderland for the holiday season.  As you know we love to travel so I’d love to hear your suggestions for a nice family friendly place to visit with little ones!

Howls!!
