DIY Harvest Candles & Inside Out Caramel Apples

Hi, everyone!

I’m running some errands today and wow, the signs of FALL are popping up everywhere. The local nursery around the corner has completely “autumnized” their display. Beautiful mums in yellows, reds, pinks, and oranges are everywhere. Hay bales are now for sale, too. The ice cream shop down the street has pumpkin ice cream. And that coffee shop we all know and love is once again making its pumpkin spice lattes.

For me, it feels right. Whenever the kids go back to school—and certainly after Labor Day — fall has officially arrived in my mind. I know you must be feeling it too...especially when you tune into QVC. From new fall fashion to harvest home décor, we're helping you prepare for the season ahead.

Speaking of harvest home décor, I’ve been itching to try a new fall craft. What do you think of these!?

Aren’t they beautiful? I'm calling them my Harvest Candles and yes, they're as easy you think they are to make. All you need is fruit and a sharp X-ACTO knife. Here’s what I did:

  • I bought different colored pears and apples to bring in lots of color. Make sure the fruit isn’t ripe, though, so they last longer and it’s easier to cut a hole in the top.
  • If the fruit doesn’t sit up (or lay down) nicely, cut a piece off the bottom to give it a flat base.
  • Cut a circle into each piece of fruit. The circle should be the same width and depth of the tea light.
  • Place a tea light inside and make sure it fits. You want the tea light to sit flush on area of fruit.

Now, depending on the tea lights you have, you may have to tilt the candles a bit to make the wax run down the sides, if you like that effect. Obviously, these won’t last all the way until Thanksgiving, but can’t you just picture your dining room table lined with them? No need to buy an expensive centerpiece or spend all day making something clever. Just buy fruit!

If you grab a few extra apples, you can make these for dessert!

Inside Out Caramel Apples

This recipe is prepared with the Anolon Tri-Ply Clad Stainless Steel 3-Piece Double Boiler Set (K302897).

Ingredients:

  • 4 Granny Smith apples
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 (16-oz) bag caramel squares
  • 2 Tbsp corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup granola
  • Caramel ice cream topping (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Halve each apple and scoop out the core plus a bit more extra flesh with a melon baller. Drizzle lemon juice on the apples to prevent browning.
  2. Melt the caramel squares and corn syrup in a double boiler and then allow the mixture to cool for 10 minutes.
  3. Pat the cut apples with a paper towel, pour the melted caramel sauce into the cavities, and sprinkle with granola. Refrigerate for 20–30 minutes. Cut the apples into slices and drizzle with caramel topping, if desired.

I hope you’re feeling inspired for the season! Have a great day!!!
