Counting my blessings, a reminder from Sandy

by on ‎10-31-2012 04:18 PM

As Sandy becomes a memory, we are all assessing the damage, checking in with loved ones, and counting our blessings.

Those last few words ring loud for me today. Like thousands I watched the news (probably more than I should have!) from start to finish over and over. Praying that the storm wouldn't be as destructive as predicted, and sending up thoughts of love and calm to everyone in the area.

And while the storm hit and my family braced for the worst, I counted my blessings.

The storm helped me realize even more than usual what is so important. My daughter that slept down the hall as I listened to winds whip outside. The roof over my head that, while it may take a beating, provides shelter to my family. Power that is soooo much more appreciated once it returns after an outage! And friends.

The friends that formed a network before, during and after the storm. Checking in on one another, praying, offering assistance. I watched online as people from across the globe offered help and kind words to those hit hardest. Love poured forth from everywhere. It always does in a crisis. And for that I am so grateful.

And it continues to pour forth as the cleanup and recovery begins. I am touched by my family here at the Q both in the building and across the nation that have banded together to show their support and concern. My hope is that you and your family are healthy and well. And I am reminded that I should let that be known more often, not just in a crisis!

I'd love to hear from you here and on my facebook...let me know what blessings you're counting today! On Twitter I often use the hashtag #littlethings anytime I find myself particularly grateful for even the smallest of God's blessings...look for that on there, too and add your own!

Blessings to you and yours as we enter Holidays 2012...
