On our way to Lancaster, PA tomorrow ... ideas?

DH and I are taking a few days off and heading to Lancaster. We've been there several times, but it's always nice to get some fresh ideas of places to go, places to shop, and places to eat. Where do YOU like to go in Lancaster?

Lititz is a nice place to explore - the Wilbur Chocolate Factory, the Pretzel Factory, the Moravian Church complex, and the many shops and restaurants on its main street.

When you get hungry and if you are in the mood for real PA Dutch (Amish) cooking hit Shady Maple, great food buffet type. There is also a farmer market attached to it.

Shady Maple market is a full grocery, great place to shop, they have everything on the planet. Prices good also. Check out Old Homestead Inn and Suites in Intercourse, fabulous place to stay!

There's Stitches Comedy Club (www. Stitchescomedy.com). We had a blast.i I don't know if they are open during the week or just weekends. There's also a Wolf Sanctuary but you have to check cause a lot of things are closed in February. There's Longwood Gardens which rivals any gardens I have ever seen and I think they are open all year. They even do concerts but not sure when. They are in Kennett Square PA about an hour from Lancaster but well worth the trip. There's also a QVC outlet in Lancaster (not the studio). Prices are phenomenal..

The best thing is to get a map and drive the back roads to see all the beautiful farm land and the small towns. Try to stay off Route 30, too commercial. The Bird in Hand Family Restaurant is very good. They also have a separate bakery down the road, great for picking up treats to bring home, love the whoopie pies. Many of the Amish sell goods out of their homes and will have signs at the edge of the road with their offerings. Its fine to stop unless its Sunday. Happy travels!

Rockvale Outlets, Tanger Outlets, we like Millers for dinner or Hershey Farm, not sure if Hershey Farm is open in winter.

DH and I love Lancaster! We go every year. We stay at the Amish View Inn, which is really nice. Some things to see and do that weren't mentioned above...Christmas museum, Sight and Sound theater, which is amazing, Plain and Fancy and Good n Plenty restaurants, Strasburg railroad and museum, Hershey chocolate factory tour, Hollywood casino and racetrack. Oh, and every Friday in Ephrata, there is the green dragon flea market....an outdoor and indoor market which is a fun place to shop. We are planning to move to Lititz when retired! Have a great time and safe trip! Let us know about your trip!
