Maybe it's a coast thing - but here in the heartland (Indiana), I've never, ever known anyone who wanted to live "near shopping and restaurants" like the folks on so many of the HGTV shows do.
If anything, you would pay far LESS to live there, instead of the cool, quiet, comfy 'burbs with far better school systems.
Reminds me of the days of Little House on the Prairie where folks lived above the Mercantile.
Do those that DO want to live "nearly shopping and restaurants", do you just shop and eat out all day/evening long?
I just don't get it.
