Re: La Mer vs. Sisley - Oily Skin

Hi OP!

I too have oily skin. I've used Clinique's Pore Refining Solutions Correcting Serum and for a moisturizer in the am, Pore Refining Solutions Stay-Matte Hydrator. To stay in the same line they also make a matte oil-free MU.

I noticed that in your OP post you referred to a moisturizer in jar. I never never never use a regular moisturizer. Clinique does make a very nice one with a gel consistency for those of us with combination or oily skin.

Just recently I decided to try Perricone's Intensive Pore Minimizer and Intensive Pore Treatment which I'm very happy with.

Do you do any peels? Peter Thomas Roth has Firmx that I think is fabulous. Clears out pores, minimizes them, leaves your face feeling soft without any irritation.

Good luck!Smiley Happy

I was going to say I had never heard of La Mer so I went googling. Dear me! Now that I've discovered it I can't afford it.

FUTURE & Irishrose136,

Thank you very much for these suggestions. I think a trip to Sephora and NM will be in order to get some samples of these things! While I think the La Mer and Sisley products will be outstanding, I will still try them but I'll always be open to less expensive products, who wouldn't be? I don't mind paying these products if they are indeed fabulous, however, I would prefer to not have to pay so much. I've tried a lot of things so that is kind of my last resort, but, voila! Here's 5 or 6 products to try that I think could work well. I really appreciate that. I always look over some products.

I'll certainly try the PTR retinol or Dr Dennis Gross. I was looking at the Chantecaille, but I think either would be good.

Currently, I use Philosophy's Oxygen Peel, however, I just look at it as a deep cleansing rather than an exfoliating peel. I tried Kiehl's Microdemabrasion and liked it, however, I do get afraid that the exfoliating particles could irritate my skin if I scrub for too long.

ct, you should try Dr Gross or PTR peel pads for peels. Both are amazing, Dr Gross is my favorite.

Re: La Mer vs. Sisley - Oily Skin

I'm oily, and I don't think either brand is great for this type of skin. French skin care lines in general are best at moisturizing rather than mopping up.

Oil production is tied to hormones, and it doesn't matter a great deal what you do on the surface. You often hear that if you dehydrate the surface, it makes the situation worse, but that's not true. If it were, no one would have dry skin.

There are a lot of "pore" products and smoothers out there, but I've found that the best thing is to use a good cleanser that really does clean the skin, and a lightweight moisturizer when I don't need a sunscreen as well. The rest is more about blot, blot, blot and exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate.

Is that the Alpha Beta Peel Pads by Dr Gross? I've heard good things about them, but always forget about them. Plus, I find myself buying less and less from Nordstrom and I really like some of the salespeople there.

Re: La Mer vs. Sisley - Oily Skin

Hi ct. I'm oily too. Here's an idea. One day I was on the NM website and found a link to a beauty expert. I emailed asking about a serum from Laura Mercier and a kind woman responded back by email. She asked a few questions about what exactly that I was wanting in a serum. Then she mailed (snail mail) me some great samples. Perhaps that's an idea to try both brands.

I didn't know about their product specialists online! I think that's a great idea, but I might be going to the store in a week or so. If not, I'll definitely email one of them. THanks!
