Holiday Returns?

Could someone point me to the holiday "extended return policy?". I thought that we had until january 31st to return any gifts, but cant remember when the orders had to be placed (did this apply to purchases made in October?). Also, does this only apply to "gifts" or any purchase made within the applicable time frame?
