While I am a cool weather person and dont want to see or feel the humidity too soon, I would love it if the snow would disappear giving us the opportunity to get out there and do some outdoor stuff. I am ready to get out of the house a bit and I dont do that when there is ice out there.  This morning, I could see the black ice and walked gingerly.  I do suspect it should be warmer soon.

I do love it when it is St. Patty's Day because then spring is around the corner. Spring and fall are my favorite when we actually get a spring and fall that is.

I hope everyone is doing well.

We had a very mild winter and spring came early.  Right now it feels like early summer, so it's unseasonably warm.  Like 80.  It seems it all happened overnight: Everything's green, blossoms are on the trees, my lilac's getting ready to open, and it's time to get out and water everything.  Good thing I took the week off.  I'm going to be spending it in the yard.  Everything's thirsty.  So many weeds, so little time.

I feel like I need to make a change so I made a hair appointment for tomorrow.  The mop is coming off.  I just have a feeling that it's going to be a warm summer and I need easy hair.  I need to make my whole life easier, not harder.

It's time to renew a magazine that I've had since the 80s and I'm hesitating.  I'm thinking of letting it go.

I'm in the mood to prune.  Everything except the plants outside.

How nice, although, I am not sure I am ready for 80 degree weather just yet. But, yea, this weather brings about the weeds and the watering and the upkeep, Smiley Happy.  Our winter hasn't been too bad storm wise. We had one big snow storm earlier in the year and just last week we just had another one. Not quite as big but it brought ice along with it which made it bad.  But it is crazy. One day the weather is nice despite the snow and the next there is ice on the windshield. At least stay consistent.

Anyhoo, I am itching to go for a bike ride. But, then again, it will get nice out and the bike will never leave it's spot. Good thing I pay to maintain that thing every year.  I dont like my bike really but I am trying not to invest in another one until I know I will use it. This one so far ended up being an expensive dust collector.

Yea, time to prune (funny, btw), me too. I am ready for a change and I almost got rid of the top portion of my tv stand and then decided not to for now and see if I can sell it.  But not sure I want to go through the process of that. I figured if I can sell it then it will get a heavy piece of furniture out of the house and then I can get a lighter one. This is a big heavy piece. I will have to think on that one.

I am jealous of your flowers btw. A sign of Spring.  I do hope we get a nice Spring.

I know what you mean by inconsistent.  They're forecasting a temperature drop next week so I'm not sure if I want to put my geraniums out.  I had geraniums and I didn't want them to freeze to death so I repotted them (3 pots) and brought them inside.  I was supposed to put them back outside last year and never did.  So this year they have to get out.

Talk about leggy.  These things look like Cyd Charisse.

Re: ComPact 2017 -- Mindful March!

Does anybody ever really get a "spring" and "fall"?  Everywhere I've ever lived people have always complained that the weather just goes from being cold to hot almost overnight.  Only a rare day or two of sunny moderate temperatures.  And the opposite at the end of summer.  I remember day after day of sun and low humidity--just perfect for a light jacket--gradually downshifting into winter.  Seems like the last few years our winters have been mild, but we have a late cold spell (bad enough to spoil the just-planted vegetation), then an early cold snap in the late fall before the rest of the following winter stays relatively warm.

I know most people like to see spring come.  I don't.  I don't like hot weather.  I don't feel good when things are growing.  I don't like to sweat.  I like sweaters and jackets and long pants.  I feel the best with a new snow covering everything and the air is crisp and clean.  I just don't like to shovel it.❄️☃️

I think spring and autumn are short because they're the best seasons.  In some parts of the country they go by in a flash.  I've always been partial to autumn.  Then, when we moved here, I looked forward to spring because I was curious to see if anything we planted had survived the winter.  And I was desperate to see some green.  Even if it was weeds.

But spring in New Mexico means wind and blowing sand.  This was the first spring in which I was filled with complete and utter dread.  I always think of T.S. Eliot (April is the cruellest month...) but I've always associated The Wasteland with tax time.  Now I associate it with higher water bills, bugs and weeds.

I prefer dormant.  I actually enjoyed the winter and hoped it would last longer.  No yardwork, no responsibility, no pest control, no weeding, no rogue trees popping up all over the _____ place...

I've never been a warm weather person.  Lying on a beach is the last thing I want to do.  I hate summer clothes.  I like rain, fog, snow, sleeves, sweaters, scarves and seeing my breath.  I get irritable when it's over 66 degrees.

I was standing in the yard today thinking time is going by so quickly that before I know it it'll be fall again.  And I felt reassured.

So... what the ____ is wrong with us?

Re: ComPact 2017 -- Mindful March!

I agree about winter and the cold.  I love it and would take that over heat any day of the week. But, for some reason, this year I am feeling anxious about getting out there and being outside.  Go figure.  I think I got a bit of spring fever when I went to that park.  I just loved it.  But, you are right, Geezerette, we really don't get much of a Spring.  I think it is just wishful thinking on my part.  ...and I am not looking forward to the heat and humidity. It just poops me out instantly. Too bad because I do love summer activities.

LOL, it's you, not me.  Love it.

Re: ComPact 2017 -- Mindful March!

Well, I started wearing makeup again. I have been trying to use one of my eyeshadow palettes that is very old now.  It still performs good but I want to give it an old college try so I at least get some use out of it.  I think I am going to declutter it at the end of the year.  We will see.  I have too many palettes and some of my newer ones are now old if that makes sense.  But, it is interesting, when you start using things you really get a good idea of what works or not.

However, why is it I think I look better without makeup?  Sometimes I feel like a powdery mess and it's not like I pile it on. Oh well, we must power on. Too many things to pan.

Re: ComPact 2017 -- Mindful March!

Oh! The forsythia! It doesn't grow where I am, but I adore it from my time in colder climates. There was one special, ancient, enormous forsythia bush I would go visit each spring...

Well, it is spring, and I'm as lazy as a slug this year. I've done a lot of thinking about what to plant, and haven't done a single thing about it yet. The weeds are growing, and I'm busy doing not much, watching them grow.

Don't know what's up with me this year. I want to garden. I mean to garden. I just don't do it.

But I'm doing well at not buying things. Can't! Gotta pay my taxes!

@KaySD

I'm getting things done, but I'm getting them done soooooooooooooo slowly.  I keep my list of things to do at a minimum and when things aren't completed I start a new list the following month.  Some of these items have been moved from month to month and I don't feel the sense of urgency I've felt in the past.

No, I haven't succumbed to the whole slothy mañana attitude of New Mexico.  I just have this resistance to the have-tos.  Responsibility is a curse.  I'm tired of being dependable.

Call me crazy, but this is something that has me a little tiffed.  A coworker recently adopted the most beautiful puppy.  She is absolutely precious.  The puppy has been sick (diarrhea) and what is the coworker doing?  She's off to Europe.

The puppy's staying here with a friend and she's taking a vacation.  It just seems odd to me.  You know you're going to be taking off; why adopt a puppy?  This is the critical bonding period.  And what if your puppy is seriously ill?

Is it me?

Must be.  Anyway, I'm using my vacation time this week to chip away at my list.  I've had this project on the back burner and it's something I could have done weeks ago but I've been dragging my feet.  It's like walking around with a grand piano on my head.  I don't know why I've been procrastinating.

And, like you say, taxes are looming.  And after I pay those, it's property taxes.  And my taxes are going up again to support the Socialist State of New Mexico.

I swear it feels like an old vampire movie -- I keep checking my throat for fang marks.  I feel like I'm being drained.

I want to spend time in the yard, but it's not gardening.  In this part of the country it's called war.  It's expensive, it never ends and people get hurt.

Re: ComPact 2017 -- Mindful March!

I'm sure there's an official term for this phenomenon, but I can't think of what it might be.

I want to know what it's called when you have an appointment to get all your hair cut off and your current hair, on this particular day, looks precisely the way it's supposed to: Amazingly good.

It's the right color, the right texture, it falls exactly the way it should -- it's great hair!

Why is this?

So yesterday I went ahead and had the mop removed.  It's the shortest it's been in a long time -- I'm thinkin' ten years or more.  The longest bits on top are about three inches.

There's nowhere to hide.
