I have natural ash blonde hair and my roots are almost always a bit darker than my ends, except for when I've colored it (which I don't do anymore).

It is not a style I would wear, but it's not my choice to make for others. I have dark blonde hair that I used to get highlighted at the salon. I could always see the subtle changes in my roots as my hair grew out and didn't like it. To save money I have been using a spray in lightener product at home - works well for me.
