May I ask why? I know that you are very politically conservative, but certainly you must favor equality and advancement for women.

The shaming of women who stayed home started when I was a kid, and I hated the feminists for being so hypocritical by saying we had a choice. If I were married, staying home would have been ideal, and no one said you needed full walk-in closets, $80,000 worth of cars in the garage, and a McMansion you have to fill with stuff.

You can't generalize that situation. Not every child who had a stay at home mom was raised in a loving, caring, and nurturing atmosphere.

Back at it again? What happened -- gave up on SuzyQ and you're going to start on me again.
And it's not YOUR place to tell me what I can and can't do. Practice what you preach.

To generalize about working mothers v SAHMs is silly and demonstrates a lack of experience with a large and varied population. How children grow up isn't dependent on how many warm bodies are at home; it's dependent on stability, love, and good role modeling. As a teacher, I've seen great kids, utter brats, and neglected kids come from households where there is a SAHM. I've seen the same from households with working mothers and, in fact, the same from households with single mothers. Through 25+ years, I've learned that SAH v working v married v single has nothing to do with how a child turns out and therefore has nothing to do with the "impact" that that family has on society.

Oh wait......as I recall, you called me out on that thread as being someone who she should look out for. Unfortunately, that thread was deleted by the moderator due to your nasty comment about me.

I'm thinking that the man who shot Malala Yousafzai in the face was not a feminist.
Women from the working class poor, and widowed wives, who cannot afford to stay at home deserve an equal wage for equal work. They deserve to get a job despite being born a female. This is where economics and feminism meet.
And if you like to vote and let your voice be heard, then thank the suffragettes who came way before Ms. Steinem.

Excellent points!
To blame single working mothers for the "downfall of society" is just another way to marginalize women. Women have been raising children alone or virtually alone for time immemorial. Men went off to war, worked 12 to 16 hours per day and traveled extensively. they were not heavily involved with raising children. In many cases the women had to work to make ends meet.
The June Cleaver idea of a mother was TV fiction.
Gloria helped women understand they were not chattel and they could make choices in how to live their lives. Choices that didn't necessarily have to mirror a fictionalized idea of what a good wife and mother had to be.
