SEPTEMBER 2015 - Bird's Nest

Hello and welcome to the Bird's Nest

Among the trees is a bird's nest,

and in the nest her three eggs rest,

and in each egg, Hush, you'll be heard!

There lies asleep A tiny bird.

The bird for the day is quite a looker - Temminck's Tragopan Pheasant

The male here looks like he belongs on the Starship Enterprise

This is what a male looks like when he is not displaying

I love all shades of brown, so I think the female is pretty too

I heard today was National Dog Day.  So for all of you out there, HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY, INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY, WORLDWIDE DOG DAY, ALL OVER THE PLACE DOG DAY.  What am I saying?  Every day is DOG ...: I heard today was National Dog Day.  So for all of you out there, HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY, INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY, WORLDWIDE DOG DAY, ALL OVER THE PLACE DOG DAY.  What am I saying?  Every day is DOG ...

Winifred,  How do you get those goatheads off of Conrad's feet or even off of your shoes without you getting stuck pretty bad by those awful seed pods or what ever they are?   I looked them up to see what the heck kind of plant they came from and was surprised that it isn't ugly as homemade sin.  Is  this what your plants look like?   I can't imagine stepping onto one of those things and getting impaled by them.   Does herbicide work on them?   Not a fan of herbicides but maybe a blowtorch.   Guess that's out of the question due to the drought ya'll have out there.   We have a grass called nut grass, and it's awful to deal with too.It has sticker like thingys that get on socks, shoe strings,  pants legs, and they cling like beggar lice seeds do,  only these stick your fingers when you try to pull them off.  Not as awful looking as those goatheads, but painful to have on your clothes,  socks and shoes.     I feel sorry for anything or anyone that would step on those things.  Do you comb them off of Conrad?  or use a ?? pliers to pull them off.   You sure don't want one in your fingers.    Sorry to go on and on about them.

We didn't get anywhere near the inches of rainfall from the remnants of that Hurricane Erika that was supposed to hit Florida.  Some off and on showers so far.  Actually could use a bit of rain as it drys up so fast here with the heat and sandy soil.

Keep cool and get your rest.

Re: SEPTEMBER 2015 - Bird's Nest

Hello Birding Friends - it continues to be hot and humid here.  I'm humming Christmas songs (lol).

The bird of the day is the Gilded Flicker

Apparently, they like to live in cacti (ouch)
