HELP! Hair loss NOT from Wen

Ok ladies, I've been using Wen for over a year exclusively and LOVE it. I feel like I have mostly everything {#emotions_dlg.biggrin} except for the oils- I only have sweet almond mint treatment oil. Sooo I recently decided to go blonde from brown which turned terrible quickly. Needless to say I've had 4 hair appts in about a week and a half and my already thin and fragile hair is now broken and much more sparse than it already was {#emotions_dlg.crying}. I think a lot has fallen out and a lot has broken off, so my question is; is there any miracle Wen treatment I can do to help jump start my growth and/or help what I still have. Do any of the oils help with this type of problem? Thanks!!!

Why don't you try Andrew Lessman's Healthy Hair Skin and Nails supplement? I think it's great. Well for my skin and nails that is; I have no hair. But people who do have hair rave about it. Good luck!

Do you happen to have a bottle you could look at for me? I am breastfeeding a toddler and wonder if it has any cautions on it about not taking while nursing.

Re: HELP! Hair loss NOT from Wen

Get your thyroid checked. That can cause hair loss. If you are nursing and have recently had a baby, then that alone is the problem. It took my sister 2 years to get her hair back to being stronger after my nephew just in time to get pregnant with my niece. My niece is now 3 and her hair is somewhat back to normal. She is using Aveda shampoo for strengthening and conditioning. She did have super fine, straight hair and after my nephew it was wavy and coarser and is still wavy after my niece. This has been a hard time for her and her hormones. She couldn't take birth control, had her tubes tied and was still breast feeding, so her hormones were in flux with breast feeding. You hormones will be in flux until you are done breast feeding, but don't stop breast feeding because of that. Talk to your gyno or peditrician about supplements and try strengthening shampoos for repair.

Oh yeah, you are a Wenner. I don't know the formulas that will strengthen your hair but that 613 is supposed to add protein, so try mixing that in with your regular CC a few times a week might help.

Also keep taking your prenatal vitamins. Those vitamins kick butt for everything women need and will also strengthen your hair, skin and nails. I would go to a gummy vitamin because they dissolve better. Regular vitamins don't always break down in your system, so gummy vitamins have been awesome for solving those problems.

Re: HELP! Hair loss NOT from Wen

I've been taking Biotin (Vitamin B7) and it has definitely made my hair and nails grow faster.

If you are going to get your thyroid checked, you really should go to a specialist, not just your family doctor or even an internist. Thyroid testing and interpreting the results is far from an exact science and in order for you to get good results, you really need to go to a doctor who specializes in thyroid patients. And IMO it would really be best to go to a doctor who is willing to at least consider the option of prescribing natural thyroid rather than synthetic thyroid (Synthroid). There are differences of opinion in the medical community on this, so I encourage you to do your own research. However, there are some people (myself included) who respond poorly to synthetic thyroid. Not just that it doesn't work, but actual adverse reactions.

A thyroid doctor is called an endocrinologist. They can be hard to find in rural areas. My endo closed her office and retired. The nearest one is 90 miles away, so I drive. Good luck finding one for yourself.

Re: HELP! Hair loss NOT from Wen

I had slight hypothyroid, diagnosed by my fertility doc. and he put me on meds for it as he thought it was contributing to miscarriage/infertility but I was taken off of it after pregnancy. I have always had thin and fragile hair so this will be something I will look into for sure. This particular incident was from the hairdresser having to redo my hair with lightening processes 4 times and my poor hair just couldn't take it :/

You can try doing the oil treatments. I'm guessing with 4 hair appointments you already had any damage cut off already so it doesn't move up the hair shaft.

As others have already mentioned, make sure this is something that you address with you physician. Even if your thyroid is only slightly "off", getting it regulated can make a world of difference in how you feel.

I also take Andrew Lessman's Healthy Hair Skin and Nails, primarily for my nails. You can buy biotin at any local pharmacy, it's relatively inexpensive.

I agree with jaxs mom, regular oil treatments will help replenish and treat your scalp, so you'll have new, healthy hair growth. Try to do them two or three nights a week, and run a dropper of oil through the length of your hair. I love the Wen oils for my scalp, but I prefer coconut oil for the length of my hair, I find that it gives me better results.
