I had shared the tips below in another post…..
here are some tips that helped me in my journey to great blow out
-remove moisture from the hair before using a brush
-section and clip hair
-work in smaller sections...section shouldn't exceed the width of the brush
-always keep the dryer moving esp in a downward motion
-no more than 3 passes of the blow dryer, if it takes more than 3 pasess the section of hair is too large
-hit the ends with the dryer during the last pass

Welcome to the recovering flat-ironers club... LOL
I was a hot-tools addict my whole life--my hair just wouldn't style without heat--until Wen.
Bruingril really covered most of what I was going to say too... I would just add, if you're going to not use styling tools other than the dryer/roundbrush, do yourself a favor and get a trim--even just dusting the ends--before you start. A good cut will make all the difference in working with the brush.
The other advice would be, definitely try pinning your hair up at night...there are a zillion tutorials from Chaz and other stylists. And you can modify it to suit your hair--like I use bobby pins instead of the double-prong clips and I like it better that way ![]()
As a now-reformed flat-ironer, you can *totally* do this!!! It takes time and patience but I swear the results are worth it!! I was using a dryer to do a blow out when I started Wen 2 years ago--but for the last year I just get my hair mostly dry, then pin it up--no more heat! Yay!! And since then, my hair has gone from chin length thin, scraggily bob to mid back!! My hair is sooooo much thicker since I broke the heat habit
You can totally do this!!! ![]()

Bruingirl, thank you for re-posting - I couldn't remember under which thread your tips were - I just remember they were good and I hadn't saved them! Kjelle, do you comb through your sections and then clip them up? Chickenmoo - thank you so much for your encouragement as a fellow recovering ironer :-) So, to be clear, you let your hair air-dry most of the way, then pin it up for the night? That sounds cool too! Thank you ladies - I so appreciate it!
you're welcome! I just did a quick glance at my posting history to find the thread I had previously posted the tips.

Since I can't quite get the hang of a round brush and blow dryer I use the John Frieda salon shape - it is very similar to the Calista Tools heated brush. I put my hair in pin curls at night.

KateMeister, you can do it two ways...You can jump-start the drying process with a blow-dryer with a diffuser that has those finger-thingies in it...that way you dry the roots mostly--which take the longest to dry--and then partly dry the lengths...When it seems pretty well on it's way to being dry, then you can go section by section and do whatever pin-curl you prefer. My hair is mid-back, so I use sections about 1 1/2 inches across and wrap it around 4 of my fingers--you can use 3 fingers for tighter curls/waves...the bigger the loop, the looser the curl. And I just pin the loop with a bobby pin (sssh, don't tell anyone, but I when I'm done, I put a hairnet on to keep it all from shifting during the night lol).
Just remember the less dry your hair is, the more curl you'll have in the a.m.... So if you want to do loose waves and flips, you got to get your hair to 'pretty close to being dry' before you pin it up...because if your hair is more on the wet-side, you'll have much tighter curls/waves.
If you are like me and go totally dryer-free, just blot with a t-shirt or cotton(like paper towel)...and let your hair air dry until it's reached that same 'just about dry' stage. In the summer time, that's not too hard to do...but in the winter it's pretty chilly to be going to bed with wet hair--so using a blowdryer to speed up the process doesn't damage your hair--especially if you use that diffuser thingy like I said...it really makes a huge difference in not frying your ends![]()
