More oily after a day or so?

First off, I love WEN, I love how soft my hair is and it does seem to have much more lustre and shine.

BUT, my hair appears to get greasy a lot faster than regular shampoo! I have oily hair to begin with and I started using WEN after the TSV in December. Does anyone have any hints for how to keep my hair from oiling up so fast?

Thank you!

Re: More oily after a day or so?

I have never used WEN but have the same problem with oily hair. I still need help after over 60 years -- started when I was about 15 and never dried out at all. Most of the ladies I know just go to the stylist each week for a lovely set -- I would do it too but the grease is back in about a day -- if I am lucky I can get two days with a set and then -- grease city

Re: More oily after a day or so?

I've had the same problem with cleansing conditioners that I have tried, though not Wen. I have oily hair but can wash every two days. I do brush at night with a boar bristle brush to pull the oils through the hair, but find the CCs, no matter how long I rinse, are just too moisturizing for my hair. I also find that regular conditioner is too moisturizing for my hair, so when I use it, I do so on the ends only and let my natural oil tend to the rest of it. I've used dry shampoo too, but only on day two, because no matter how much I use on day 3, it just doesn't look good. I just got a Fuller luster brush, half round, and love it as it does get through my thick, fine hair to do it's job. It does cause static, but I thinking that is the dry winter air. I hope someone can help you as it might help me too!

Re: More oily after a day or so?

Make sure you cleanse rinse and repeat. Focus most of the product on your scalp. I use 8 pumps for each cleanse for a total of 16 pumps. My hair is a couple inches below my chin. For each cleanse, I focus 6 pumps on my scalp and the other 2 on my ends. If your hair is longer, you will want to use more on your ends. You may need to use more pumps than you are using now. How many pumps are you using? What is the length of your hair? Make sure to add a splash of water to really distribute the product all over your hair. Also, don't be afraid to massage the Wen into your scalp. It will get your hair clean. Make sure to rinse until you don't feel any cc left on your hair. Hope this helps. I also wanted to add that overnight oil treatments work wonders for balancing the oil on your scalp.

Re: More oily after a day or so?

Are you really getting down to your scalp when you cleanse? I use the pads of my fingers and make sure I cover every inch of my scalp after frothing the product up. Give your scalp a good massage, work it thru the rest of your hair then rinse-rinse-rinse! I use the pads of my fingers on my scalp during rinsing, too. When my hair is "squeaky", then I take my shower comb and run it thru all my hair from scalp to ends a couple of times. I find that not taking the time to rinse enough is what causes my hair to look oily sooner.

I'm a fairly new user, too, and just started using "only" Wen to cleanse about a week ago. I started out just using it as a leave in. I learned a LOT by reading anything having to do with cleansing on this forum. The posters here are a wealth of info, and very helpful to newbies!

It's recommended you use daily when you first start using WEN, to adjust your scalp to this cleansing method. In a few weeks you should notice a difference. Hope this helps!

Re: More oily after a day or so?

I had an oily scalp but since I've started with Wen 2 years ago, its almost gone now. I can definitely go two days between cleansing but I work out everyday so I usually don't unless its on the weekends.

It takes time, a long time in my case, for your scalp to adjust to not have the oils striped with the shampoo. If you have to cleanse every day. Just know that it will get better.

I started out using a total of 30 pumps - 10 scalp, 10 nape - mid shaft and then 5 and 5 on the ends. My hair is down to my bra strap. I have modified to 6, 6, 3 and 3 and do that twice. I'm going to see how that does.

Also, can I ask how many pumps people get from a bottle. I received 5 - 16 oz bottles with the TSV in December and I don't think there's any way that's going to last me until June.

Thank you!

Re: More oily after a day or so?

I had the same problem. My hair looked greasy and limp on the second day. I could never go without washing it. While I know a lot of people love it and get great results, it's to complicated for me. It's like a science experiment figuring out how many pumps is just right.

Re: More oily after a day or so?

Some nice WEN ladies here told me to rinse at least twice as long as you used to with shampoo.

That solved the grease issue for me.
