FAS - different bottle, different experience (WEN)

Hi all. Initially a kind WENner sent me a 16 oz bottle of FAS to try before buying. My reaction was extreme and unpleasant. 99% maple scent and 5 % apple and so strongly scented I just couldn't use it.

Fast forward to December 15th. I received the FAS with the December TSV and decided to give it another go since there are so many loves for performance. COMPLETELY different experience. Right off I noticed the apple when I opened the bottle. I was also pleased to not be knocked over by the scent. I must add that I was out of state for 2.5 weeks after receiving the WEN and decided to leave the top off the bottle and keep it in the walk in before using it. I tried it also with my initial bottle and it made no difference and don't really think it did with this one either.

I tried it as soon as I got home and also yesterday. LOVE!!! The scent actually leaves my hair and the body/shine is unreal. Now perhaps the open bottle had some effect on the scent but not this much. I couldn't even wash the scent out with TT before.

that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Re: FAS - different bottle, different experience (WEN)

hm, so do you think the first one was from a different batch and that was the difference between the two drastic scent changes? I left mine open for at least two days straight (may have been three?) and it didn't change the overwhelming scent. In fact, I kept it in our bathroom and hubby kindly asked me to move it elsewhere (it smelled really strong in the bathroom). I tucked it into the kitchen and no lie, I could smell it in the hallway as you pass the kitchen. I finally put it in the utility room. I did use it a few times though but didn't notice any amazing shine like some people experienced (I wish!!) or perhaps I may have given it more chance but seriously, it was one of those scents that instead of getting used to over time, it became more sickening sweet to my nose (and DH truly disliked it and kindly asked if there wasn't another formula I could use instead).

Anyway, I am glad it worked out for you the second time!

HI HD, I do think it was a batch issue. My first bottle I had to get out of the house, it was as strong as you said it was for you. The second bottle was no were near that scent strength. I get another one in June I think - we'll see how that one fares!

Re: FAS - different bottle, different experience (WEN)

I have to agree it might be a batch thing. I bought it when it first came out and it was pretty strongly 'maple' scented....I wasn't happy with it so I re-gifted it. The person I gifted it to loved it to no end, so I thought I would try again to see if it was maybe my nose.lol The second bottle was much more apple, less maple and I really liked it so I kept it.

Maybe y'all are onto something with the batch thing?....

I actually love the scent of FAS (and it does wonderful things for my hair). Interesting that you had such a different experience. This makes me want to go open my new, unopened bottle to see if it's any different than the one in the shower!

Same here I love the FAS scent and performance. I have two unopened 32 ozs. And I'm curious but I don't want to open them just yet. But I would like to add that I opened a 16 oz. FGP and hadn't used it in a long time and I found the scent to be just as strong or even stronger than FAS.

I have to say, I'm not particularly a fan of the scent of FAS and mine is very maple with little to no apple. Had I gotten a batch that was far more apple, I would likely think very differently. Could there really be such a discrepancy in the batches??

I don’t know about different batches and the level of fragrance, but I do know that the Fall Apple Spice’s performance rocks on my hair! Not so crazy about the fragrance and was worried about trying it based on what I have read here, but it does amazing things for my hair. The fragrance is very strong and it stays with me… Since it’s a bit much I have been mixing it most recently with Winter Vanilla Mint (from last year) and my DD says I “smell like a candle”. I guess that’s ok, as if that was bad she would surely say so.

gosh yes, if it was more apple scented it would have been tolerable. That is truly what I was hoping it would smell more like. I was really surprised at the strong maple scent since maple isn't even in the title!

And I agree, FGP is pretty strong too BUT it didn't linger in my hair for days on end and it did not permeate my towels and hair turbie thingy like FAS did.
