Hello, Wenners!

I've watched Chaz for many many months now and every time he's on I learn something new. I'm also really appreciative of all the great posters here who share their experiences because I learn so much from you all and because it's so interesting to me to hear how the same products work so differently for so many of us. I'm interested to hear more about how you have customized your Wen routine to fit your needs, and I'm specifically curious to hear if any of you get great results from Wenning outside the box, or not by the book, so to speak?

Ok, I'll go first: I'll admit it -- I flat palm it! Every time I cleanse I flat palm my leave-in and my SC+GS mixture. I also part my hair and flat palm it along each side of the part. Also, I've been watering down my bottles of Wen (SMC, SAM, TT, and 613) and using a few extra pumps for each cleanse to compensate. It helps me to distribute the product better on my scalp and throughout my hair, and it helps me get a head start on frothiness when I add the splash of water to froth it up.

Shh -- don't tell Chaz!!! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Re: Wenning -- outside the box?

I rarely use any CC as a leave-in, and when I do it's smaller than pea-sized. More like a smear that I work into my ends. Prior to starting WEN, I was shampooing daily as my scalp had been increasingly more oily for a year or so. I received some oil in a TSV kit and THAT has been the game-changer for me as far as how often I cleanse now. I'm only doing sporadic oil treatments and I can go every other day now without cleansing. When I start to do oil treatments more regularly, I expect the time between cleansing to widen out. I, too, have thin/fine hair and find bebe's product listing & how they work for her to be nearly identical to how they work for me; although, I haven't tried using CA CC yet. I routinely use TT CC as my 1st cleanse, then a seasonal or 613 as my 2nd cleanse. I hadn't been able to use SC as it left my hair heavy (POM) or flat (LAV)- and that was using a pea-sized amount. But, I tried CA SC today (1 pump) with a few spritzes of VTS, with some VTS at the roots and I'm in LOVE with my hair today!! I am pretty close to using the amount of CC that is rec. for my length (between chin & shoulder length) which is 18 pumps- 9 each cleanse from a 16oz bottle. But after reading bebe's confession, I may try tweaking the amounts I use-- THANKS!! **sorry for the wall of txt, posting from my iPad**

Re: Wenning -- outside the box?

I think you can use too much. When I started using Wen. I was only doing a single cleanse and was using 24 pumps on my chin length hair. Wow! It was way too much. The cc was dripping off my hair and my hair was a fuzzy mess. I was about to give up. I got a tip from another Wenner on the forum at Chazdean.com. She told me to try using less. I cut it down to 12 pumps. I was still only doing 1 cleanse. That worked great for me. Now, I do two cleanses. I use about 7-8 pumps per cleanse. However, I could probably get away with 6 pumps per cleanse. My hair is really thick. I have enough hair on my head for two people. So yes, if you have fine/thin hair, you can use less. Just use the amount that works. Don't worry so much about rules/guidelines. I think Chaz just tells people to use that amount to start so people can learn. It is better to use too much than not enough. You just need to make sure to use the recommended amount to start and then tweak it from there. I think it's all about finding that magic amount. If you don't use enough, you won't get your hair clean. But, there is no need in using more than needed.

I agree, well put.

Re: Wenning -- outside the box?

You know how the pump stem does not reach to the bottom of the cc bottles (would be nice if Chaz fixed this)? The suggestion made (I think by Chaz) was to add water and shake it up (to mix it) and this solved the problem of potentially wasting product ($$$). I did this with the WVM (not a fan of the smell!); thinking I could use it as a "shaving soap." But I felt a little cheated...even though I don't like this smell at all, I was still wasting product and money. I wasn't liking the results to use the watered down cc for shaving, so it just sat there in the shower.

Well, I ended up getting to the bottom of a few more bottles, added water and shook them up. Now, my shower is overrun by all these watered down and full strength cc bottles too. So, being the organizing space saver I am, I decided to do just that - save space - by combining all the watered down cc into one bottle (this cut down the WVM smell for me and it didn't smell weird either, just a less strong WVM smell and still the main scent). Got my shower back to normal.

Then for some reason I ended up using the other shower and all I had to wash my hair with was the watered down WVM cc concoction. This is better than being stuck with actual shampoo or nothing at all, but I wasn't excited it was WVM. Well, I have to wash my hair, since I hadn't washed it in 5 days. AMAZING RESULTS!!! {#emotions_dlg.w00t}{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}{#emotions_dlg.lol}

I was crazy impressed how well this cleansed my hair. However, the downside is for my hair it wasn't moisturizing to my preference. Now, fast forward, I haven't washed my hair for several days and my hair and scalp are filthy - tons of products and product buildup (including a boatload of hairspray, which I don't normally use - I went to the Marine Birthday Ball!). I know this means I need to cleanse 2 times (normally I wash once like Chaz originally recommended and when he changed it to twice, I felt that was a waste of product, tried it but had unfavorable results - once is good for me), because I didn't want to "waste" cc (I'm being frugal and stingy with my cc, it's pricey) I decided to use the watered down WVM cc concoction for my first cleanse and fig for my second cleanse. AGAIN, AMAZING RESULTS!!! {#emotions_dlg.w00t}{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

My goal was to clean my scalp and then work my way down my hair. This worked so well because the cc is thinned and distributes easily on the scalp and down the hair. I then use full-strength cc for the second or 'real' cleanse and I no longer feel cheated having to water down the bottom of the cc bottle...though the pump stem should go to the bottom of the bottle...just saying.

Anyway, point is, watered down cc DOES cleanse the scalp and hair!

Re: Wenning -- outside the box?

my routine varies. sometimes double cleanse, sometimes single. sometimes use less, sometimes more. after a year and a half I can pretty much judge which one to choose. sometimes I cleanse because I want to - not have to.

I mostly do 2 cleanses and generally use less than recommended with great results.

Re: Wenning -- outside the box?

I used 12 pumps today instead of 16. My hair feels great, but I will have to see how long it stays clean. I don't think I could get away with less than 12, though.

Re: Wenning -- outside the box?

I have a few "off-label" uses for Wen... I've been using the 613 cc as body lotion. Girls and guys, this stuff is **amazing** for having soft gorgeous skin in dry winter weather!!! I've used other cc's as body lotion and they all work great, but the 613 brings it to a whole new level!! Plus, anyone with KP--the 613 works really well to keep that under control...no redness or bumps. I don't know how or why, but it's awesome!!

I've also been using the bamboo green tea cc in place of finishing creme. I've got a few tubes but I've been too lazy to get them out of storage....so at night I use the BGT when I pin up my hair. I apply a bit to a section, especially the ends, and twist it in, and brush the section with a round brush--then loop it around and pin it up. In the morning, I just take my curls down and round brush through--voila, gorgeous, moist Wen hair!!

My other thing is I use the oils on my scalp nightly and leave them in. I just use a few drops raked through before combing--then I do my usual night routine with the bamboo and pinning my hair up. The oils have helped keep my hair shiny, nourished--and I've not had a single broken hair or any damage that I normally see in bitter winter weather. Plus the oils have kept me from having any itchy scalp problems or dandruff... Love the oils!!

I think because these products are so treatment based, you can't mess it up...however you use them, they give you all kinds of benefits. Smiley Happy
