I believe I have just developed this. I am trying several things before I go to the doctor. So far I am taking alleve every day, a vitamin pill with iron, extra magnesium and have tried several night time sleep aids but nothing seems to be helping. I think Osteo Bi Flex helped with the knee pain but not the strange unpleasant feelings in my legs and the urge to keep moving them at night which is preventing me from getting any sleep. I'm so tired I'm about ready to mix a brandy with nyquil to see if that will work! Does anyone have anymore ideas for me to try before I go to the doctor? Thanks!

Good luck. I used to take clonazepam when my symptoms would kick in. I get it in my arms. OMG it drives me crazy sometimes. My mom and sisters take something over the counter that they say really helps but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. I know, and don't ask me how this is even related because I haven't got a clue, but when I have a lot of sugar/sweets it really acts up. I also take Lessman's leg and vein support, but I'm not sure if that is the reason my symptoms have decreased drastically. I read an article about soda and sinus medicine being triggers for restless legs, so I stopped using both and have seen a major difference. 57babe1355538766.9837476 PostsRegistered 8/21/2010 Restless leg syndrome can be caused by a Vitamin B12 and Magnesium deficiency. Perhaps you have a vitamin and mineral deficiency. There are drug, diseases and conditions that can cause malabsorption of vitamins and minerals which may lead to Restless leg syndrome. Ask your doctor about supplementing your diet with B12, Magnesium (and some other vitamins and minerals) and see if the problem resolves. Hope you are feeling better soon. :)
dsky1355541862.86958 PostsRegistered 1/3/2009 I've heard to put a bar of soap in your sheets, down by your legs. Like a bar of Ivory or any other. Worth a try. Tabbycat1355542331.2232705 PostsRegistered 12/2/2007 Oh dear, I have it. I know how you are feeling. The only thing that gives me relief is Arthritis Hot Cream. I find it at Dollar General. BUT, I bet any arthitis cream or rub would work ..... well, maybe give you a bit of relief. It's the only thing I have found that gives me relief. It would be worth a try if you have some on hand. I apply it to my whole entire leg from the panty line all the way down and between my toes! Tabby

leelee1355542528.903540 PostsRegistered 1/16/2006 There is a product called Restful Legs by Hyland's. It is available at CVS and many other places. Magnesium is important too. Maybe try a different type of magnesium than you are currently taking until you find one that helps you. Hope you feel better :) I've had restless legs for several years. I bypassed all of the suggestions mentioned from others and went right to my doctor. Now I am taking Mirapex and it's absolutely wonderful. I realize some people do not want to take another pill, but if more vitamins and minerals are not the answer I wouldn't put up with restless legs much longer! It's so annoying, irritating and at times painful that I'd make a bee line for the doctor. HappyVal1355542856.27520 PostsRegistered 6/9/2011 I have this also, and I know how you feel. I have found that a hot bath in epsom salts is very helpful. This also replenishes magnesium in the body, since the magnesium salts are actually absorbed through the skin. You can find lavender and eucalyptus scented epsom salts at Walgreens, and they aren't too expensive. Instructions for use are on the package. You may have done this...try putting Restless leg syndrome in the above Search Bar for some previous threads. Best of luck in finding some help!!! Sakuya1355546039.361502 PostsRegistered 2/15/2011 I always thought this was something people got as they got older. But I'm not there yet and it started to happen to me. Not every night, but it took me awhile to figure out what was different the nights it did happen. It was pop. I am not a big pop drinker to begin with, but on the days where I did have more than usual for me, my legs would twitch and I couldn't keep them still and they kind of ached. If I have pop, I don't have more than one can in a day and I don't have it at night unless I drink just as much or more water. I have not had the problem since I paid attention to my pop intake. I don't ever drink coffee because I don't like the taste and pop has never affected me caffeine-wise, but when I follow my own rules I can sleep. suewags231355546376.103107 PostsRegistered 10/6/2004 Try European Leg Solution, it helps me. Last edited on 12/15/2012 gypsy21355546466.3031666 PostsRegistered 5/24/2010 I used to have this really bad , then started taking Andrew Lessman's vitamins and it went away. I also had cramps in my legs and feet and that went away too. Hope you find a solution to your problem... I have had restless leg syndrome for years and nothing seemed to help, not over the counter or Dr. Rx. I got online and researched it, alot of people said try magnesium, I had nothing to lose so I tried it and it has worked for me for the last 5 years. I buy a big bottle of magnesium gel caps at costco, take one before bed or if I am going to be sitting on a plane or in a car for a long period of time, and have had no problem at all. You might try it? and I do hope you can get some relief!! Drinking water helped me the most with RLS. Doc said, I needed more hydration in my system to keep the blood flowing during the night. I drink a bottle of water a couple hours before bedtime and if necessary, drink a partial bottle if I get RLS or wake up during the night. The water really helps with RLS and quality sleep. It only happens occasionally, so I take 50 mg. of Benadryl (GENERIC) and within a few minutes, I'm asleep. It is exasperating and usually lasts a couple of hours, at least. I do keep some Benadryl on hand and maybe next time I'll try that. I've been reading this thread for ideas. Not everybody can go to a doctor, so it's nice to see what else has worked for people. :) I do have some soap under my sheets, from something I read here a while back. I have had this happen a couple of times since I put it there, so not sure if that is working. Maybe because I don't have big bars of soap, but a couple of those littles ones you get when you stay in a hotel. heh "Everything isn't black or white. They are miserable at night, when I lay down. Could someone describe what it feels like? I thought I had RLS after a surgery and could NOT sleep for over 10 days. Not even a wink. I felt like I was going insane. My doctor gave me different STRONG sleeping pills and muscle relaxants and NOTHING worked. After many blood tests he determined my iron level was extremely low, the lowest he had ever seen he said. As soon as I was on prescription iron for a week I felt so much better. You may want to make sure it isn't something like that. BLH1355595720.7671129 PostsRegistered 1/21/2009 My doctor prescribed Requip for my restless legs. Works like a charm. It's just this constant physical anxiety in your limb or limbs (like I said, I get it in my right leg and right arm) and you have to keep moving them. You try to relax and stay still but it won't let you. "Everything isn't black or white. The grey areas are where reality lies." Anniecamp1355596246.2173082 PostsRegistered 10/6/2004 Hmmm, I have pain and a prickly sensation in my legs at night. Have a terrible time getting them into a comfortable position so they don't hurt. That doesn't sound like what you describe.
