kbyrd48125 PostsJoined 10/6/2004Bama I went on line trying to find out if Medicare covered the shingles shot. I couldn't find where it did. I was told it did but wanted to be sure. Do any of you know or had the shot and Medicare paid for it? Thanks

See pages 59 and 67. Last edited on 4/8/2012 It’s easy to see the negative, but every person has something great about them. The amount of copayment / coinsurance (money you have to pay) for the vaccination varies, depending on your plan. Medicare part B does not cover the shingles vaccine." http://www.medicare.com/vaccination-coverage/shingles-vaccine.html Last edited on 4/8/2012 Ellekaye1333929418.823181 PostsRegistered 8/12/2011 If you don't have Medicare part D coverage for prescriptions, the cost is approximately $150-$175 for the shot. You may want to shop around and try your local/county health department. I asked my PCP about this and he said He was not aware of any insurance that would cover it. It would cost approx $175 to $200 and he did not recommend getting it because he didn't feel they were effective. He said they are less than 50% effective at preventing shingles and if I call as soon as I would get a breakout the antiviral drugs are just as good at keeping it to a lesser case at a much lower cost. However he did highly recommend getting the pneumonia shot but my insurance won't cover that til I am 65 so I have to wait 2 more years. I keep being told by Drs that I must get the shot, but my daughters take turns getting pregnant. Later this year I will have 8 grandchildren 10 and under. My Mother had it and I helped take care of her, she really suffered. Call the number on your card and ask them. I wouldn't take anyone's answer. Call the number. kachina6241333946041.8579021 PostsRegistered 10/6/2004New Mexico I have Medicare and supplemental Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance and I paid $30 for the shot at Walgreens. I don't know who paid what for it. I don't care what it cost, if it will prevent the agony of Shingles, I'd pay it. bigsister1333966010.964393 PostsRegistered 5/15/2010Southern California All I know is that when I got the shingles shot two years ago at a drug store, I paid $200. I only have the basic Medicare, Part A and Part B. I had the doctors office call to find out if it was covererd. I could have called myself but asked while I was there for a physical and asked if they would check. They paid 100% of the cost. sunnybrook1333973103.851876 PostsRegistered 8/25/2005 Next year, I will be eligible to enroll in Medicare. Could someone ballpark a payment number for Parts A and B. How about D? I'm assuming A is covered. Wrong? TIA Medicare did not cover mine. I paid $200 also and my husband went to the health department and paid a lot less for his. As others have said, YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET SHINGLES. From what I've heard those that had it said they would gladly have paid $1,000+ to avoid them. I know for a fact that BCBS covers it because I had my shingles shot last month; I'm only 52 but no was was I going to wait until I was 60. I know two women in their 50's who came down with it. BCBS paid. But if they hadn't, I would have glady paid for it myself. adelle381333978307.4974872 PostsRegistered 12/22/2007 On 4/8/2012 morning lover said: I asked my PCP about this and he said He was not aware of any insurance that would cover it. Your doctor sounds like he should be "aware" of a lot more than he is. My insurance covered it and many do and I have never known a doctor who didn't recommend getting that shot because shingle is so very painful. "I'm not a madam. Medicare absolutely does not pay for a shingles vaccine. Maybe another ins. but definately NOT medicare. csv3201333986136.776724 PostsRegistered 6/24/2007 On 4/8/2012 Ellekaye said: If you don't have Medicare part D coverage for prescriptions, the cost is approximately $150-$175 for the shot. If I would have gotten it at the pharmacy it woudn't have been covered. At the doctor's office I only had to pay their adminstration fee.
