are there any free genealogy websites? (not just free for a trial period)

I was a subscriber to the Ancestry website for quite some time. I finally realized that I was stuck in my search for information on a particular ancestor and was never going to find that information there so I canceled my membership. I thought I would try a different genealogy website ( a free one) but everything I find offers it's limited services free for 7 days or 14 days and then you have to subscribe in order to continue. are there any really free genealogy websites out there?

familysearch.org is free. And many states have records online, as well as cities, counties, local libraries. do a search for genealogy by county that you are searching

The Library of Congress has some newspapers digitized on a site called Chronicling America
