How do you pronounce the name of the red plant that is popular this time of year?
I pronounce it "poinsett-AH".
It just sounds wrong to me when I hear it pronounced the other way.

Same as you. My grandpa used to say piano as Pie-anna and a sink was a zink. When I was a kid I always would think about it long after he said it. LOL

Merriam-Webster says poinsett-ah, as you say it. That's how I say it most of the time, but other sources say both pronunciations are okay. I think it's one of hundreds of puzzles about how our English language works!
Rhymes with POINSETTIA

I think it's supposed to be poin-set-eee-uh (accent on the second syllable). But I also think it's one of those words where both pronunciations are acceptable.
I could be wrong.

Paul Ecke III of the famous Paul Ecke Poinsettia Ranch in Encinitas says it with an ""eee ah""

I've said it both ways. I don't know why either.
