Would you do something nice if it might make the person feel bad?

I am not invited to the birthday party but, I would like to give a small gift for this 1st birthday. I'm concerned that the Mom might feel embarrassed because I was not invited to the party. I am not close to them but DD speaks of them often. Should I send a gift?

No I would not send a gift.

Probably not. I'd be more concerned over her and her reaction than in my enjoyment in giving the gift.

Good question!

I wouldn't. It could cause hurt feelings & anyway the 1 yr old won't know who did or didn't give gifts.Maybe think about why you want to give it,what's the real purpose & is it worth it? (:

I do not see anything wrong with sending a small gift for a baby's first birthday. Sometimes people do not extend invitations for fear some will think it is nothing more than a gift grab.

Could your DD offer the gift since she is closer to the child?

No! You'd only be making yourself feel good.

I think people only invite very close family and friends for the 1st birthday parties. I don't see how it could possibly make the mother feel embarrassed in any way. I think it's thoughtful that you want to, but I don't think *I* would send a gift to someone I did not personally know.

I enjoy shopping and, since it was baby's 1st b'day, it seemed extra special. I picked up a couple things several weeks ago but they can be returned.
