Thanks to the Twitter account @Amazing_Maps, we now have an idea of how the Internet stereotypes all 50 U.S. states. When a search phrase like "Why is Illinois so..." is typed into Google, the search engine autocompletes the sentence with the word that people most commonly write in the search bar next. In this way, Google autocomplete may reveal the deeply held assumptions the public holds about a state.

I'm kinda surprised Mississippi doesn't say "fat".

Gov. Walker could not have been elected nor won a recall election if Wisconsin was "liberal".

"Corrupt" isn't a stereotype of IL, it's the truth. I believe IL is in the top 10 of the list of the most corrupt states.

Pennsylvania haunted? Where does that come from?

Depends which side if the state you're on...East side is more conservative (Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who gave one of the Republican responses to the. SOTU is from Spokane)…

West side..more liberal. West side has higher population numbers, so most of state govt and the Congressional delegation are Dems.

I have lived in Nebraska all my 74+ years and I've said here many times. I have never been "bored" in my teen or adult life and will not be until my time here is over.

Maybe it's all the history associated with the state, but I've never heard that it was haunted.

Hi John, good to see you here. How is Cindy? I think about you both often.

Mine was spot on. A few of the states where I have lived seemed to be a bit off.

Guess I made a "SMART" move when I left "BAD" NJ to relocate in MA. Did spend 4 years at college in "BORING" DE, so I guess I needed intellectual stimulation after that.

I surprised FL isn't "GERIATRIC" instead of "HOT". Wink

Milwaukee and Madison liberal. The rest of the State and suburbs of Milwaukee moderate to conservative.

I laughed at the stereotype of my beloved home NJ. Whatever, we have it all. Do not understand though Cali being considered expensive when it actually cost more to live in NJ then Cali.

I don't buy into stereotypes. Do all bit pulls bite and kill?{#emotions_dlg.sneaky} Are all redheads Irish? Are all Italians mafia?{#emotions_dlg.ohmy} See how that works? Nope, they're never a good thing. Interesting how some agree with the stereotypes on the map though.

Living in CA all my life, I have to say that the 'stereotype' is correct. To live and exist here and have a certain standard does require more than folks bargain for. Don't know about the other states.

I don't like maps like these, I think they are moronic. I don't give them any credence at all.

Just because Delaware is small, it does not make it boring. No sales tax. Close to Philly. Train ride away from NYC and DC. Great beaches. Winterthur. Punkin Chunkin. Firefly. Dover Downs Monster Mile. Joe Biden (he's definitely not boring!).
