CAST CHANGES IN THE MENTALIST

Amanda Righetti has confirmed that she will, in fact, be leaving The Mentalist. Her last appearance on the hit CBS show will come in early December. Righetti isn’t the only actor bidding The Mentalist adieu either. Owain Yeoman has announced that he is leaving, too. This means huge changes are coming to the show. These two have played such major roles on the show that it certainly won’t be easy to fill their shoes. This will no doubt mean Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon–portrayed by Simon Baker and Robin Tunney, respectively, will have even larger roles in the coming seasons.

Amanda plays the role of Grace Van Pelt on The Mentalist. Owain Yeoman plays her fairly new TV husband, Agent Wayne Rigsby. The two tied the knot, following a surprise engagement, in a romantic wedding ceremony during the sixth season of the show.

“I feel like the time is probably right,” Amanda Righetti says of leaving The Mentalist, during an interview with TV Line, adding, “It’s the end of one thing but the beginning of something new.”

She also spills the beans about the show’s post-Red John era, which begins on December 1st, explaining that the show will then jump two years ahead of the Red John saga.

“Basically, they have their own private security company,” Righetti says of Grace Van Pelt and Wayne Rigsby. “So we sort of are outsourced and freelanced with the FBI, and that’s how we fit in.”

Sadly, this means that Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman will only appear in two December episodes before they leave The Mentalist. Do you think their absence will be strongly felt by fans? It definitely will be interesting to learn who producers will bring on board as new characters on the show.

Might the departure of these popular characters seriously impact the viewership of The Mentalist? Or do Simon Baker and Robin Tunney carry the majority of the show?

I watch the show for Simon, that is all I need! I will not miss those 2 characters, though I have enjoyed their storylines over the years. I wish the actors good luck in future roles, but will watch as long as Simon is on.

Wow, it just won't be the same without Rigsby and VanPelt!!

I had read earlier that these two would be leaving the show. While their characters are good supporting roles, they can be replaced. The show is centered around Jane and Lisbon's characters. I would definitely miss Chou though if he were to leave.

Sad to see any good show change (which is usually the precursor to the end). There are so few of them.

Don't like the changes on "Person of Interest" either, or "NCIS."

Whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Owain Yeoman is a Welsh actor, born and raised in Wales.

He has a MA and was a member of the Oxford Revue.

What have they done to the earth?
What have they done to our fair sister?

I like them both but I have always liked any show to be edgy and change things up a bit. I think it keeps it realistic and yet interesting and is a draw for me. I honestly never felt Amanda had any real acting ability myself, though I do like her character in this show. I'm looking forward to the new ideas they will have. I do like Cho and am really glad he will stay.

I like Person Of Interest and feel the writers are definitely trying to keep this show on the edge. They were saying in an interview how they eventually plan to kill everyone off just due to the nature of their work and the danger factor. Joss was just the first one.

One of the reasons I like Revolution is the very fact that no one character is "sacred" and you never know what will happen. Its never predictable.

I take it some may miss them and not watch. But I will still watch. I love the show and Simon aka Jane is my favorite. IMO he MAKES the show.

I agree. He's adorable.

I no longer watch this show but I think Simon Baker is one of the best looking guys on TV.

I use to love him in The Guardian.

I think they should have caught/wrapped up Red John in like 3 yrs, not 6, but at least it's over! Think it's kind of exciting it will be set in another country & 2 yrs later beginning next week, a new fresh start. See how different the team is doing international cases. Looking forward to it!

I'll miss the two characters but they were supporting characters, they didn't add that much to the show. I won't miss them. When they let them marry, I kinda assumed their roles were ending. I love the show but it really is all about Simon, all the other characters just revolve around him.

I remember him in that show. His character was very different, extremely morose, as I recall. He was born to play "Patrick Jane," though.

lulu, did you take your name from The Guardian or is that a coincidence?

I adore Simon Baker, too, and love The Mentalist. I've always watched the show for him so it didn't matter so much what the plot was. He has such an expressive face. Based on the previews, the show is going to be very different for a while.
