Haven't heard anything about it, but then again, I am not into astrology, or is it astronomy?

EVERYthing in the past that was "SUPPOSE" to cause havoc on the computer systems didn"t, so not real worried. If it does, that means days off from work YIPEE!!!

It's passing much nearer to the Sun than to Earth. At the end of November it will be under one million miles from the Sun and on December 26 it will pass Earth 40 million miles away. Don't think I'm gonna worry about that.

today I just happened to turn on Smithsonien channel and the show on at that time. they were talking about what would happen if an asteroid hitting the ocean off of California.

the show was showing what would happen to the earth. It was quite a good show and very informative.

Thank you! I read the article. I am not concerned. I am going to call the lady back and find out why she thinks it could stop our computer systems.

Even World Net Daily says the comet will have no effect on Earth:

I thought WND might be where this story originated, but even the nuts aren't pushing it as "sky is falling" news.

I'm with you. That would be the only way to get a day off. OOPs ... We are emergency response .... dang! OK .... Don't want trouble.

Some people should use a glue stick instead of chapstick.

I love how in scary movies the person yells out, "Hello?" As if the killer is going to be like, "Yeah, I'm in the kitchen, want a sandwich?"

Comet ISON poses no threat to Earth, but this week scientists say it is not brightening its "coma" (tail) as it should be doing now. There is now some question it will display as first thought-the Comet of the Century. But we shall see....

One of the most dangerous events in our solar system happens when extremely large solar flares destroy the entire electrical grid. Just this past week, the most extreme type of solar flare did come from our Sun, striking Earth's orbit in an area where our planet will be in two weeks. A very narrow miss. It was a Carrington Coranal Mass Ejection, a solar flare so large, that it would knock out power, cars and cell phones throughout the US. This happened last in 1859 when telegraph lines were melted. The US has done little to prepare for this type of event. Shielding is on Air Force One, but not the most critical infrastructure in the grid, 2-3,000 transformers so massive they control our cities.

I still think that the solar flare will destroy the comet! Wink

What is a little frightening is they have predicted several things in the past they were supposed to cause us disruption and it hasn't. So how long will that hold out where nothing keeps coming from it?

This frightens me too, the flares. I have read and am not sure if this is correct but they say the flares are getting more violent, is this true?

Is it just going to mess up my computer, or destroy Earth? I need to plan ahead for Christmas shopping, and might cancel some of my CIJ orders Smile

Well, CIJ is now making perfect sense. Cause unless you own a car made well back in the last century with your own generator and in ground gasoline supply, you'll not make it to the mall and your computer will be useless.

Surely they will sell these supplies on the Q? Perhaps have a firesale mid October even? Wink Think I will just take my chances and risk the comet thing.

Well, here's an update on the Carrington-class solar flare that reportedly (Washington Examiner) nearly missed Earth a couple of weeks ago..... a complete hoax....NOT...never happened....yep, bogus. Seems the story got picked up at a meeting of Ex-CIA Chief Woolsey and other top security folks who advise the government on EMPs and who casually mentioned the solar flare in their comments. I saw the video of the meeting. And they talked about it like it was common knowledge. But NASA reports if anything, the Sun has been rather quiet of late. Nothing erupting of concern.Solar maximus is quite tepid.

Badly done. But the concern for EMPs, Electromagnetic Pulses, should be upper most in Homeland Security minds. Google the threat of a nuclear explosion over the US in the atmosphere above the eastern corridor, and the effect would be catistrophic-equal to 50 Hurricane Katrinas. The misinformation about a near miss with a massive EMP solar flare just sets us back in getting on track to make safe those 2-3,000 super transformers that are vulnerable, critical and take many months to replace. They are the heart of our electronic grid and vital to every part of our economy, farming and health care.
